Tiny, my 15 week old Silkie pullet, is doing very well with my two new 11 week old New Hampshire Reds.

She seems like she's getting closer to egg laying time!

So much fluff!

Your white Silkie is so-o-o white and fluffy! Your pullets both NHR & Silkie will be fine as juveniles but I would watch the NHR around the Silkie at maturity. I've had NHR and they are very nice layers but bigger hens just because of their size can be tempted to bully gentler smaller birds whether they grew up together or not. I didn't heed advice not to mix Silkies with dual purpose larger heavier breeds and I learned the hard way. My yard is not big enough for the littles to hide from the heavy breeds that wanted to bully so we re-homed all our dual purpose. We don't get as many eggs now but enough for just the two of us. Our best gentles mix in the backyard so far has been 2 Silkies, a Blue Breda, and a Blue Wheaten Ameraucana. Had to put down the 3-yr-old Ameraucana but we have a Cuckoo Breda on order so it will be 2 Silkies and 2 Breda. I would adore another Ameraucana but I haven't had luck with 3 of them with only one making it to 3-yrs-old.

Thanks @Sylvester017! Tiny is extremely fluffy and soo very soft - I'd love to cuddle her but she's quite skittish! They are doing very well for now, but I'll heed your advice for the future. I am planning to expand the enclosure for more room and hide-y spots for everyone. I take them out for supervised grazing each day (I hover around them like a hawk

) but I am very wary of letting them go out on their own as we have neighboring outdoor/barn/feral cats and other critters lurking about.

The Silkies were a freebie gift from a family friend, and our first chicks. I may introduce other varieties in the future, but am currently being limited by my SO. He says 3 is enough, but I slightly disagree...

Aww thank you so much!! I'm so in love!! :)

Aw, I bet! She is just absolutely precious!!! Great job hatching her! Did she come from your birds?

They're 2-3 days old now & I think it's time to put them in a bigger brooder.

Lets see how many I can hatch before hubby tells me to stop lol

I know that it is virtually impossible to sex silkies, but I was just wondering if size or fluffy tails are any indication. I have 10 babies that are 5 weeks old, some are larger then others and seem to have fuller tails. They are all the same age. Again, I know time will tell. I am just wanting to keep a few and don't need any more roosters...lol. Thanks for any advise.
