Like said, partridge, and wow, what cuties you have there.

Chipmunk brown stripe on the back is usually a Partridge and there are so many shades/colors of Partridge nowadays. Such cutie babies!
Thanks guys!

God I hate spell check! Silkies, not Silliest!

No, you were correct the FIRST time -- Silkies ARE the SILLIEST!!!

ONE SILKIE PICKED UP COBWEBS WHILE THE OTHER HAS A SPIKED MOLTING CREST

DIDN'T REALIZE WHEN I TOOK THIS PIC THAT THE ROUND BALL INSIDE THE MIDDLE RIGHT OF THE GARDEN BED WAS A DUST-BATHING SILKIE DIGGING TO CHINA!

It was sad rehoming him but the testosterone had definitely set in. He had started getting very protective of the hen and would chase myself and my 2 young boys around the yard. I would love to get another silkie hen but they are hard to come by where I live. I had to drive 5 hours to get the 3 I had and it looks like 2 of them will end up being roosters:/. Your girls are beautiful!!

TY! Silkies get a bit worn being outdoor free-range birds but they have so much fun chasing bugs and finding weeds and taking dust-baths in my garden mounds! One Silkie sits on my shovel when I'm digging because she doesn't want to miss the earthworms -- I have to block the Silkies when I'm gardening so they don't get hurt by the garden tools. It always seems like it's hard to find a bird once you decide what breed you want. I always find available birds of breeds I don't want but when I want a particular breed I suddenly can't find any. I finally resorted to ordering from breeders found through BYC posts. In the Spring a local feed store has a Silkie breeder who brings his juveniles into the store -- I have to keep calling to find when the breeder is bringing his birds and hurry there to get a good pick before they're gone -- Silkies are a very popular bird judging from the number of BYC pages on them!

I see the pictures when I check the tread, maybe I am doing it wrong posting and I see something that is missing? Does anyone else see pictures? No to your question the only two that could lay is the easter egg or the silkie. My white leg horn went broody then molting now, her egg is white and oblong, The australorp has been laying daily very dark. No other? The surprise egg just totally confused me, cream with light specs, very small and almost round shape.

Oh you mean like a light tan discoloration spots?

I thought you meant like grey splotches kind of like a kill deer bird egg,

yes it is totally normal based on a number of different factors and could be from the silkie because silkies lay small cream colored eggs.

I just think it is strange the silkie doesn't coca doodle doo everyday, only twice in two weeks and then the cream egg? I decided to rehome to a better winter environment. I don't have any other silkies and am very worried about winter here. I have a business in a better winter environment and my receptionist found a local farm that wants it. So sad, but think it is best to rehome. The silkie did really well with the other larger hens, held his own with them except the alpha hen doesn't like the silkie and does chase it on occasion. My daughter was the one who brought home the silkies but I think I will re think since the sex is so hard to determine for so long kind of made me think to stay away from this bread. I am looking for cold hardy and egg layers and not sure how I got into this in the first place. Thanks everyone for your guidance. I guess next spring will be more knowledgeable on what type of chickens I should order. I am looking for two more.

That is what it looks like, but everyone said my silkie looks like a rooster, so the other pellet must of layed it. The only problem is the other chicken was supposed to lay green eggs? I decided to not wait till next spring to know and rehoming the silkie. Thanks for helping kind of funny tho, on your response of wild birds in the coop.

Silkie vent, I did check and noticed it was about a 1/4 inch long didn't look swollen. I never really checked it before, so nothing to compare. Can somebody share what a slikie vent looks like after it layed an egg? My large hens are totally different. This could help others like me know if they layed an egg.

Do the Silliest and Sizzles come in different sizes? Like regular and bantam? My one is lie doubling in size from the other!

If, they are from a silkie parent, they should be more bantam size. There are LF Frizzles. Had a real large Frizzle NN once! Quite interesting looking.

But yes, silkie frizzles/sizzles, are small.

Thanks! This warning is killer! Put everyone outside tonight and am checking them ever couple hours. They have a heated pad and a regular light but the coop is not totally sealed off. It's down to 60 and they seem to be okay... ought to drop another 10 degrees tonight I'm hoping they will make it okay. They are so big I have to get them outside. My office stinks and they need more room to move around! More to come! .......
