Love the coop. I put a good layer of straw down and the cover with pine bark . Of course they will scratch it around and it helps to have a mound close by for topping up.

yes that's my issue I have a gravel area divided to a sand area divided into organic mulch!! it's completely dry in the morning because we raised the ground 4 inches to keep some of the frost out because we are about to have a blizzard!! my run has a roof the sides are all tarped because I didn't want to keep them in my small 4x8 coop all winter!! I have 17 chickens now and 2 roosters!! My friend keeps scamming me to take more silkies lol!! come to find out her name for bunny was "pig pen" she is the only one that looks like that!! she is molting idk if that make a difference or if some just like mud??

Need some advice please. I have silkie eggs due to hatch Sunday and a few more eggs in the mail. What is the preferable percentage of protein to feed silkie chicks. I was thinking that regular starter (17%) for laying flocks would be good because they are small and fast growth is not much of a factor with them. Then I heard the smaller the bird the higher the protein should be because they use a lot of energy to keep warm because of their size.

So what I guess I'm asking is what do all you silkie breeders feed your birds throughout their lives. Thanks!

A good quality chick starter is sufficient. It doesn't hurt to add a good poultry multi vitamin to the water on a weekly basis.

Is this the wrong type of comb for silkies or no? If it is can I still breed him/ what are the outcomes.Hes like 8 or 10 weeks somewhere in between

Ok I wasn't sure because I got some that I think are Roos but there's are flat they're also nonbearded so I don't know if that matters on comb or not.
