Silkie thread!

I'm looking for some good quality hatching eggs...

We had 4 beautiful blue silkies that were total fluffballs... 2 have been killed by a hawk over the last 3 months (so have some run securing this weekend to make it even more predator resistant)... Have 10 eggs that are in lock down now, but wondering if anyone has some eggs they have available to ship in the next couple weeks.

I'd like good quality (not showing but like the quality look), however dont seen to be correct colors:
I'd like a pure white, paint and splash... Grey, yellow, etc (the non standard colors) as well as the white ones.

Just figured I'd ask around on here first before looking to eBay...

I am waiting on my NPIP cert to arrive so NPIP is always a preference :D

Much appreciated for any advice, eggs or tips where to find the right ones.
Rubynala has silkies. Talk to her.

anyone know where i can get some good quality Red Pyle silkie chicks or eggs? would prefer hatching eggs over chicks as it's cold here so shipping babies would be too risky unless it's someone in New York or Vermont, then i could come get them.

Hi I am looking for a good hatchery to order silkies chicks where did you guys buy your silkies?
My first 5 I got as pullets from a local breeder. The next 4 I got from a show breeder a little further away (and more expensive). Now hatch eggs from Indianapolis (as we speak we're pipping).

I haven't and don't think I will buy any hatchery chicks. Don't like the process and many times quality of the chicken isn't as good as a dedicated breed specific breeder.

I also bought from a local breeder. They were a bit harder to find but while in my search, I read many bad reviews on people not being happy with the looks of the hatchery silkies. The most helpful review I read said,"Hatcheries are a manufacturer of chickens, their goal is to produce quantity;not quality."
Weather or not it's true, sorry I have no clue... But they had pictures of show winning silkies...
Mine are just pets but I wanted good genes in my babies, from parents who were handle with lots of love.

The hatchery silkies I've had before almost looked like a different breed. Feathering wasn't as dense either. Plus the straight combs and attitude problems.

All the ones I have now are pretty friendly even without handling.

I have a hatchery silkie, and no matter how much we've handled her, she's still the most skittish of all our chicks. ^.^

I got eggs off ebay, and hatched my own and they are all super nice.

See, that's been my experience with the ones I got before. And the aggressive nasty rooster.

Now I have a cockerel in the bachelor pen that just follows me around. He hasn't really been handled. If I reach down and pet him he kind of startles for a second because I'm not sure he even realizes he's doing it. He doesn't run off, though, and is never aggressive. Just hoping I have some treats. If anything the males seem more friendly than the females and tame down really quick with handling.
