Silkie thread!

I agree! We have a neighbor's son across the street that uses his driveway like an Auto Repair Shop and keeps revving his engine at its loudest for hours at a time and then guns his car engine squealing his wheels down the street! I've stood in our front driveway when the hens cackle their loudest egg songs and can't even hear them! To both our neighborly credit neither of us tattles on the other.

That works!

A photo of my .. almost 2 month old blue, with his/her best buddy..a NN! Same age!! I think the silkie is a boy..check out those thick/big toes!

You can see the fluffy bum in this..almost..hard to see.

There is an old thread called "silkie breeders" that you can look up using the search bar, you might find someone local that way.
Or you can try your local craigslist... it really depends on if you want just pet quality or breeder/show quality.

Hi. I am new to showing a Silkie at the Fair this year. I am told we need to pluck her feathers so she can see frontwards. I am also told one should use their fingers to pluck and not a tweezers? This little Silkie has an abundance of fluff. Can anyone give me tips on the best way to groom around her eyes in preparation for the show? There isn't a lot online regarding this and I don't want to take too much off. Also, does it hurt to pluck them in that area? Anyone have a picture so I can see what it should look like when done?

First, when I bath I put a towel in the sink so they don't slip and it slowly lets water build up so their feet and bottoms soak. Luke warm water and a sprayer and go really slow working from the rear up. Mine don't panic. First bath they are a little tense but then they start to realize the water feels good. Baby shampoo is the best too and I tip the head beach and spray so water doesn't run in the nostrils.

As for the dye, if you search eBay, they sell dye for dogs and it's non toxic. You bath them and then put the dye in while they are wet. Let it set 15 to 20 minutes. While they sit there with the dye on them, I wrap em in a wet warm towel and spray it here and there with warm water so they dont get a chill. When it's done, rinse with warm water til water runs clear, towel them off and blow dry. Mine LOVE the warm air from the blow dryer. They start yawning and lay down and fall asleep. It's really cute. Some people say dying is cruel but mine love it and they get all clean and depooped. It's only cruel if you hurt them or they just truely hate the bath and panic every time. I have yet to have one that is terrified but mine get handled and picked up a lot.

Mine love it and especially a blow dry ha hs

We had to wash our flocks feet due to the muddy and wet weather we had. I wanna make sure her feet are ok. This is a photo. Does she have mites? Also how can you tell if a silkie has bumble foot?

Just found this thread. I have a little flock of silkie bantums.
One Roo and five hens. My Roo ( Captain Hook) is a bit of a butthead. His harem though is one pheasant colored, two grey, and one black. The Captain is a really beautiful inky black. We just started getting newly hatched chicks yesterday and I am trying to figure out who laid the white silkie baby lol
the other three that have hatched are what looks like a merle grey, black and a dark grey with pheasant markings.
