Silkie thread!

Oops I do have an updated pic, but this is before we've started "chicken construction" for it. The white building behind would actually work as a 4th coop if we needed it too.

Oh I plan on it! I'm so excited for it! I've been looking at so many pictures on Pinterest for ideas! Though the coop we have now was built for the family chickens it's still my in laws and they had all say in its design, which I don't mind as they paid for it and built it but this time I get to put my own creativity into it and though I try not to show favoritism my silkie hen is my and my sons favorite so she's going to have most say in my design lol, if she doesn't like it it doesn't stay pretty much. Even though I can't personally change the pecking order for them the place we're moving to has so many options that if I needed to she could have her own coop and be queen of it. It looks like the people had two different coops in the barn not including the shed were turning into our chicken coop which looks like they had for chickens, rabbits, and judging by the poo we had to clean out, goats lol I have an old picture of the building itself but no updates pics or any pics of the inside.

Very nice!!!!!!!!

Your Silkie queen will need another Silkie companion. Even if Silkies are not the best buddies in the world (which mine aren't haha) they still toodle around together. Chickens are flock mentality and need at least one more companion of their own breed and IMO especially Silkies. My two old girls are seldom separated.

Your silkies look amazing! And hmm I'll have to see if the farm store has any silkie pullets. I definitely don't want another silkie rooster unless it has the same temper many as our first chicken king. He was the sweetest which is why I truly believe he sacrificed himself to save the other chickens that night. The silkie roo we have now is so mean he even scares me. Their names really match the personality. We named him Viserys from Game of Thrones and her name is Daenerys or Dany. Though SO might get mad if I get more chicks

TY!

I had a "Danni" once but she was a Buff Leghorn.

As for getting stuck with another Silkie roo, we waited to buy our second Silkie pullet until she was about 4 or 5 months old from a private seller at a local feed store and she was the approx. same age and size of our first Silkie so the introduction was fairly smooth and no surprises that she was not a pullet. She was fluffy and rounded enough that we knew for certain she was a pullet before we bought her. I'm not fond of raising chicks since we have no space for such a venture so getting sexed juveniles is my favorite way to go.

I've only seen silkies at our local stores once and that was last year when we got four, I was hoping to get some silkie eggs somehow and put under her next time she goes broody and then she can raise some silkie babies but I don't want her to have silkie/sex link babies. Especially since our sex link roo is just plain mean. Bites everyone and clawed my SO all the way down his side. Not the kind of roo I want fathering Danny's chicks lol if I can't find any silkies at the store though I'll see if anyone has eggs on Craigslist. Tsc ended there chick days but I think rural king and farm&home still have chicks. Last week farm&home's chick selection was not very impressive but I never did get to see rural kings.

Love that black silkie and buff leghorn!

Both Silkies and Leghorns are pretty birds but not compatible. Leghorns are too assertive and downright cannibalistic sometimes toward gentler or smaller breeds so we had to re-home Danni back with her sister in my friend's layer flock. I hated giving her up but I've had to re-home a White Leghorn and a Cuckoo Marans for the same reasons -- they are just too aggressive toward docile breeds. So far we have been ecstatic with Breda mixed in with the Silkies. Both breeds are docile and there are no injuries to the Silkies from the gentle Breda's who also happen to be good egg layers!

Our Blue Wheaten Ameraucana was a very gentle soul around the Silkies. We lost her at 3 yrs - she didn't do well in our hot humid climate.

Cuckoo Breda as a juvenile just starting to grow her little triangle tassle and long feathered feet

Blue Breda have no comb but a triangle tassle on top, vulture hocks, and long leg/toe feathers. I have two more Blue baby juveniles on order.
