Silkie thread!

Do any of you have problems with Silkie getting face wet when drinking. I trimmed the feathers on her face but still gets soaking wet and now that it is cold it’s freezing. She doesn’t seem bothered but I’m worried about her having a frozen head all the time.

My white one always has a green beard and forehead from eating chopped greens out of a dish. I don't know why it never happens with my partridge one. From what I can tell, the green is mainly on the tips of the feathers. I'm guessing your hen's feathers are mainly getting wet at the tips and not down to the skin. They're pretty good at shaking the moisture off themselves.

Ok I’ll keep an eye on her. She is a mess because it appears after she gets a drink then she wipes her face in the dirt in the dust bath area so she has a mud mask on her face.

My white silkie is having the same problem. She seems to dip her whole head in the water lol I’m going to have to trim her “hair”

A good portion of my hens always have wet beards and crests. They do it on purpose once they learn it helps them see better. I've had hens rub their heads in the mud where they spilled the water. Big clue it wasn't on accident was that their feet were clean.

He thinks I'm going to eat him still. He reacted slower than the others is why I was able to catch him. They'll calm down soon enough.
