Silkie thread!

So what your saying is she's not broody right now so to take them out. I was under the impression that they need to make a clutch before they decide to sit.
I take my eggs out keep them in the house in an egg carton fat end up tilting the carton a couple times a day and date them with the date layed, as after 7 days fertility goes down. I keep gulf balls in the nest, when they are ready to go broody they will sit on the gulf balls once they have been showing broody behavior for 4-7 days I replace the gulf balls with marked eggs I have saved (mark them so you know which ones to remove everyday as all hens will give her more eggs everyday).

Thank you. We put her first batch of 5 eggs in rhe bator. They all are fertilize and going nice. But she currently has 5 more eggs. The bator isn't schedule ro hatch till June 8. Will the eggs I currently have from her going ro last until i can get them in the bator?

They will not be the best quality by then. May or may not develop. Staggered hatches are difficult but can be done.

No, I date them and do not try to hatch (in incubator or under a broody hen) anything older than 7 days as quality of the egg for hatching goes down. After the 7 day mark I cook them and feed them to my family or back to the flock.

Just wanted to share my king and queen of the coop :love proud silkie mama!
