Silkie thread!

I have Silkies! I've seen this thread for years (I think since it started) and now I can FINALLY post here. I'm so excited to see how they grow up, they're so cute with their head fluffs 😍

Silkies are such great birds that we have two more DNA-sexed females on order from Buckaboo Farm. Will post when we pick them up.

@Hinotori - I specifically ordered a Blue DNA-sexed female from NPIP certified breeder Buckaboo Farms. I never had a Blue Silkie before and waited a long time to get the order. The other two females I believe is a Black and another possibly a Silver or Gold collared Black. I really wasn't looking for 3 chicks but when I saw the pics of the 2 Blacks I had to have them both! Too young to tell how the 2 Blacks will color out yet. It's funny how the little Blue was the smartest one to figure out the food and nipple water sources first. She's tiny but mighty!

Whenever adding new birds to an existing flock I like to order new birds in pairs or trios to know each other before introducing to an existing flock.

This is my existing flock of one 6-yr-old Dominique and two 3-yr-old Silkies. We lost our 11-yr-old Partridge over a year ago so that's when I went shopping around to get more Silkies.

I've been calling the left bird a Silver Partridge but with each molt she gets more gold in her later years. The Partridge sitting inside the garden bed was our 11-yr-old that we lost. She was our very first bird w/ her brother when we first started BYCing.

Love our 3-yr-old Partridge - she's very golden:

I'm phasing out standard size hens even though I love the gentle temperament of Dominiques. I'm at the point that keeping Silkies only will do me well in my senior years. Silkie eggs are also a decent size for a larger bantam bird so we don't really need larger birds for our egg basket :)

Our old Dominique will not be replaced when she's gone. She is a sweet temperament bird and has picked my DH as her "human"

@Hinotori - If WA wasn't so far from me in SoCalif I would've loved getting birds over the years from you. Your special breeding projects developed such gorgeous birds. Partridges of all colors and patterns will always be my all-time Silkie favorites.

Thank you.

Yeah. Im not NPIP so I cant ship.

I sure missed having Silkies. My OG flock all passed on so I was without these fluffy butts for a while. Ended up atrempting to hatch some, first lot resulted in 1 white pullet which was beautiful but she up and died at 5 months old :hit

These two came from my second attempt with purchased eggs. I did have a few boys also hatch but since none of them were breeder worthy I didnt keep them (they went to a bachelor pad at my father in-laws). These girls stay to be pets and broodies/mothers for my other birds

@AusHen - How wonderful that you have the ability to hatch eggs. We are zoned for 5 hens/no roo's so I get our Silkies already Marek's vaccinated and DNA-sexed. Straight-run is not a choice for us. But we still manage to get chicks young enough to enjoy before full grown. And they do grow so fast!, don't they?
