Well, partridge chick finally gave up the battle (?) this morning. I did everything I could for it, I even put yogurt on its beak a couple of times, put the food UNDER the lamp, tried mini mealworms....and that's a trick that has had every chicken chick in fair health eating. I had gatorade in the water...not sure what else I could have done and kind of confused.
The GOOD news is, I recandled the questionable silkie egg in the bator and saw veins. Yay! I'm determined to get a good hatch this time.
Here's the cuckoo chick.
I've noticed he looks a lot like my black serama chick, and that cuckoo can breed with black. So is this guy black, or is he cuckoo? /confused
you cross cuckoo to black to increase the melanizers and darken the skin and comb. so it could be black. If you fan the wings you should see the cuckoo pattern by the time it is a week to 10 days old
my silkies would look so pitiful compared to all your peoples birds just can never find show pontential started birds in my area
here are my old ones that i wish i still had but are dead due to a hawk:
Nekhebet - your chick looks exactly, absolutely identical, to one of my cuckoo silkie chicks when it hatched. I have three that are a few weeks old now and you can really see the cuckoo pattern on them. I didn't notice, where did your eggs? Mine were purchased on ebay.

I bought mine from Jenlynn4 (sp?). She doesn't live too far from me, so I just picked them up. She had some auctions going recently too, but mostly partridge. I think I really like the cuckoo pattern
SO I'm really glad I have people confirming it's cuckoo-ness
