Silkie thread!

Hi all,

I have a couple of newbie Silkie questions. I hatched 3 in my first ever try with a 'bator from 'Pot Luck' eggs. My babies are black, white and I think Lav.

I am wondering how much fluff they should have on their second toes? I have varying amounts on my 3.

Also wondering when I will have a good idea of sex? I've heard Silkies are hard to sex early. I'm in no hurry really I just like to try and guess early and wait to see if I'm right.

Guess I need to find the standard now I have them.

one of the silkies i have is almost assuredly a girl, and already is the most type-ey of the bunch!!!!!!!

Well lets see, silkies are great little chickens. I have had them for quite some time. I have noticed that some lay earlier than others, but my average has been about 6 months.

RareBreedFancier congrats on the chicks, It can be quite awhile to sex silkies the boys will get streamers on their heads long feathers flowing out of the crest

cathunter10 it depends on the line of silkies many of mine don't lay till 11 months

What color are these silkies? They are almost 10 weeks old and hatched from cuckoo and BBS eggs. I'm pretty sure none of the BBS eggs hatched because they were marked and I only got 1 cuckoo.

The cuckoo is behind one in question. Silver color in the neck, dark top?

I'm hoping my black and lav turn out to be a pair. Would be nice if the white is a hen, there are some beautiful whites shown around here, shouldn't be too hard to get a really nice roo.
