Henny, as far as candling. I usually candle at 10 days and then again at 18 days. Thats it. But thats just how I do it.

FWIW, I always have staggered hatching. I rarely move eggs to the bottom unless I see a pip--they rock up until they hatch. Have a bunch hatching yesterday and today, though. Including a partridge chick from a black silkie papa and a white crested black silkie mama; partridge shouldn't come from them, either

Another from them is a proper black. It will be interesting to see if the chicks inherit the white crests.
