Is there any general age as to when Silkies start to lay? Mine are going on eight months and no eggs.

Some can lay as early as 6 months but its not uncommon for them to take longer the normal is about 7-8 months. As others have stated it could take up to a year for them to lay.

Ah, well at least I still have a chance of Silkie eggs.

Hopefully they'll start laying soon!

It's always so exciting waiting for your 1st egg. My girls are all of adult age and have not began laying this year yet. I had one girl lay 2 eggs 2 weeks ago and no eggs from her either since...LOL I say to everyone who wants to buy eggs my girls are on protest due to the harsh winter.

It is!
It's been an odd winter here, unseasonably warm one day then diving back into the 20's and 30's overnight. Maybe that's slowing them down, at this point one egg would have me skipping around the yard!

Anyone know if a missing toenail is genetic or??? I no you don't want extra or not enough but what about it jsut not being there?
The toe is, jsut not the nail.

Three silkies out, newest one looks to be either white or white/splash.

I really want a white silkie hen but I like the red/partridge ones I've seen, too.

I can't believe I have to sell/give away some of these.
