Advice plz?????????

I have a roo who hatched out in August of last year making him 7 months old. He was by his self all winter and about 2 weeks ago introduced him to an older hen who is about 2 years old. He started a chest bumping match with her which he lost and she seems to domnate him. I figured i'd leave them together and they would warm up to each other. They seem to have warmed up but he is still not breeding or crowing.

I decided to put him in this afternoon with my SG hen who is about 1 year old. Same thing they chest bumped she kicked his butt and he flee'ed from her.

Is he still too young?

I had a two month old silkie crow today!!! I can't believe it! My others were always about 5 months. I wonder though, this is the first chick that has been in seeing/hearing distance of a crowing cockeral...so I think maybe he learned from him.

it can take up to a year for a male to mature. I have one that is 11 months and just started breeding

And if the girls are to intimidating its liable to hold him back from breeding even longer. But whatever you do, keep that first hen. She is worth her weight in all the chicks you hatch when it comes to an overly aggressive male. I had one of those, I couldn't put any female in with him because he was so rough. I put a girl in with him that I knew would broach no foolishness and she pounded him to the dirt. Every time he acted up she pounded him again. After a couple of days he learned something because I could put other females in with him and he behaved himself.

yes sometimes they are yellowish sometimes they are grayish.

robin416 we used to use the same thing to teach the young stallions manners. we would turn them in with the older bred mares and let then whip the boys for a couple of days. after that they were perfect gentlemen

x2! I bought a beautiful but spoiled rotten TBX filly, just turned her out with my cranky bossy cowhorse mare who chased her around like Pac Man for a few weeks, what an attitude adjustment! Good tip, in case I ever have that issue with a rooster...
