Silkie thread!

If their crests get really big, you may want to do solid ramps for them. Ours are either solid T1-11 with small pieces of wood nailed as treads or I put the gripping shelf liner for a non-skid surface for them.

We use the kennel panels too -- and put chicken wire on the bottom half as extra protection.

I was thinking of a solid ramp when they are older. We bought the dog kennel at lowes it has a cover I'll use in the summer. We put protection netting around it on the outside. I'm considering putting a sand box in for contrast textures for them. The good thing is they are in my 10 acre back yard and we can let them out to free range in the big yard when we are outside. So far they are not crazy about leaving their pen unless I'm carrying them.

OK, I promised pics. These were at the hotel last night and not real good. They were taken with my phone.

What a great weekend! It feels great to be home.

They're babies, still. They'll learn to love ranging & storm the gate when you open it like ours do!

Yeah -- solid ramps aren't as pretty, but they're probably safer. We use kennel panels for all of our breeds. They work great!

I know Karen Larson (Kelar) did well but that's about all I can tell you. The Silkie club made good money on the breeder auction. They divided your eggs into 6, 6, and 12 for the silent auction. I would have loved to have bid on them but my incubators are full. I didn't make it back to the silkie table to see what they went for.

There were some really nice birds but being a novice at my first show, I was just in awe of the whole thing.

I'm hoping to be back there in October for the next show... with entries.

Sorry I couldn't give a more detailed report. Hopefully some of the exhibitors will chime in with some brags.

Need pictures of your new babies ASAP!!

You are so funny! I love your posts. I hope you start getting better luck with your eggs. Go to the Nationals if you can.... and bring a big wallet! So much temptation! Chicken people are the best too.
