so silkies are as loud as tiny calm or mean bantams, and the largest calm or mean ones? i figured they were really quiet as supposedly so docile, and everyone seemed to love them for house pets above others ive seen.

It depends on the individual how loud or quiet they are. All of mine are calm for the most part. I think the more I handle them the better they are personality wise. I have a couple of roos that are pretty darn loud when they crow I also have a couple I rarely hear and it's not all that loud. Most of my girls are pretty quiet but I have a couple that are very noisy. IMO all silkies have the potential to be docile, easily handled and calm because it's their nature for the most part. Hand raising and/or handling them daily especially the boys helps a lot.

I have an ebay auction up for some of my very nice white silkie eggs. My project auction went well...I love it when I can keep my eggs from going to waste I am just so full I can't even think of hatching anymore right now.

Helloeveryone,
New mom to two baby silkie chicks..one white and one black. I really am enjoying the thread and all your photos.
I can't wait for my girls to get bigger..well hopefully they are girls..they were not sexed. Honestly I got them for the looks and heard they are good pets. Now after reading all your posts about being broody I am glad I did not get them to lay alot of eggs.

Awww so cute!! Silkies will lay just fine and their eggs are pretty good sized all things considered it's just keeping them laying that is the problem! LOL Need a good momma hen though and you're all set! Make sure to post more pics as you're little fluff balls grow up, we love pics!!

I raised my house chicken in the house. She was outside with her hatch mates for a few months till the new blood birds started pecking at her. She has a defornaty and has never grown to the size she should have and has always taken longer to do what her sisters are doing. When she started laying eggs she never sang the egg song. She went broody and had 2 hatch and I took the rest away so the chicks would get out and eat. She got so mad at me she was stomping her feet and screaming at me. It was actually funny to see but she keeps giving me the stink eye now. She was a sweet cuddle bug. She's a protective mommy now.
