Yes my plan is to breed them to some very NICE NICE blacks...
Here is the girl I wanna use, She was VERY VERY black but she is sun bleached she loves the sun..LOL I don't plan on showing her so I am not worried about it. I also have some nice young roo's I hatched from her I am watching grow and waiting to see which one turns out the best which all of them are. Maybe in two years I can offer some VERY nice Lavender/Split lavender babies/eggs. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/13823_henny2.jpg https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/13823_henny1.jpg
BTW: This girl is super blind I have tried trimming her crest its a waste of time I can't get it short enough..LOL
You won't forget your ol' buddy Colie when that happens right???

Fantastic Julie you did a great job!! I hope you keep having such good luck with hatching especially if it's shipped eggs
What are you using to incubate? Were silkies the first breed you tried to hatch? From my limited experience I have had less problems with crooked toes/feet when I leave them in the incubator for 2 days or so. Isn't it fun trying to get a boot on a silkie foot?? LOL
Those questionable color chicks look partridge to me **shrug** The dried egg goo I leave alone unless it's really bad for two reasons: One I'm lazy haha and two it'll wear off in about a week
Julie: beautiful pics, youre the hatching queen! those 2 look like partridges to me too. They look very nice, I think you need to send the buffs to me.

I recently hatched a Dorking with a crooked foot. Other than the bandaid boot, I usually give a drop of Poly-Vi-Sol a few times a day to help with that... it can be caused by a vitamin B deficiency in the parent. Well, I was out of vitamins in general.
Went to TSC & bought Durvet Vitamins & Electrolytes, then to walmart for the baby vitamins -- I saw they had B complex drops & after reading the label, bought that instead. It's not thick like PolyViSol, so a little more difficult to administer. I only gave her drops once a day for 2 days, plus added the vitamins to the waterer. Never did get around to doing the bandaid shoe. I tried to pull her out to do the drops yesterday ---- her feet are better! I couldn't figure out which of the four chicks even had the issue!
Dried egg goo -- I give them a little bath & blowdry.
I have four silkies hatched last night and I have no idea what color they are. I have Partridge, Blue Partridge, Blues, and a Lav Split. Any input would be greatly appreiciated!!
brief FREEBIRD story: last year we bought 2 black silkies from a man last year at a swap. inside the box of silkies he also had this tiny, sickly looking, day old, blond silkie with its face in a corner and its eyes barely staying open . my buddy with me said "hey what about this one?" i said "nah man, it does not look so good" and we both just sorta stared at it with pity. well then the old man just grabbed it and shoved it into my box which is now holding the 2 black silkies and 2 one week old polish chicks and said "you can have it for FREE" poor thing just cried and cried all the way back home. i was thinking, great now this thing is gonna die and my gf is going to be all to pieces about it. well sure enough this thing starts to take a turn for the worse. i am sure by morning it will be dead and the gf will be sad and i will never hear the end of it. so i isolate it, keep it warm, feed it every 2 hours or so, and after a couple weeks, its doing great and eventually makes a full recovery. now it is our best bird. so friendly. so happy. and has the best personality of the flock.
