Fantastic Julie you did a great job!! I hope you keep having such good luck with hatching especially if it's shipped eggs
What are you using to incubate? Were silkies the first breed you tried to hatch? From my limited experience I have had less problems with crooked toes/feet when I leave them in the incubator for 2 days or so. Isn't it fun trying to get a boot on a silkie foot?? LOL
Those questionable color chicks look partridge to me **shrug** The dried egg goo I leave alone unless it's really bad for two reasons: One I'm lazy haha and two it'll wear off in about a week
I recently hatched a Dorking with a crooked foot. Other than the bandaid boot, I usually give a drop of Poly-Vi-Sol a few times a day to help with that... it can be caused by a vitamin B deficiency in the parent. Well, I was out of vitamins in general.
Went to
TSC & bought Durvet Vitamins & Electrolytes, then to
walmart for the baby vitamins -- I saw they had B complex drops & after reading the label, bought that instead. It's not thick like PolyViSol, so a little more difficult to administer. I only gave her drops once a day for 2 days, plus added the vitamins to the waterer. Never did get around to doing the bandaid shoe. I tried to pull her out to do the drops yesterday ---- her feet are better! I couldn't figure out which of the four chicks even had the issue!
Dried egg goo -- I give them a little bath & blowdry.
