people still use dial up? we don't even have a home phone anymore. just cells.

yes, its true, hi speed internet is still not available everywhere! I use an aircard. We cant even get satellite internet because of the trees....and with the frequent power outtages, I keep a landline phone in case of emergency and for DHs clients.
Colie if youre (kindly) concerned about dial up users, you can copy the thumbnail edition of your pic and paste that, then those w/ faster internet can click on the pic and it expands to the larger size. You have to initially download the larger size to your photo file though.

I don't have cable , wifi, or any of the fast speed internets we don't have companies out this way where I live yet so there is no coverage so I have to settle for dial up or satellite.
The satellite during the day is slow some times as dial up but other times faster. But it don't take very long to open images. We only get really fast speed between 2 am - 5 AM and thats the only time we are allowed to down load, watch videos, listen to net radio, or watch movies but the movies are slow and pause to buffer a lot.
I am way out in the country I wish I could use a aircard I don't know where to look for them.

I know it we don't have a home phone either. I know quite a few BYC'er have a slower connection either dial up or hughes net or similar. My mother's house has dial up, I'd rather push toothpicks under my nails than deal with her connection for very long. I end up tethering my droid to my laptop and dealing with non 3G connectivity than that! lol

Anyone remember when AOL was the cool thing and 56k modems were fast?

Hi Coli, I am also in Texas how do you keep your silkies cool in the Texas heat? I just got 3 Silkies they are still chicks but with the coming summer I am just curious how to keep them cool in the hottest part of the summer? Thanks!

Oh yes the Texas heat! I live in a desert climate being this far west, which is both a blessing and a curse. Dry heat, so I think it's more tolerable at the high temperatures but it's still darn hot and dehydration and overheating are a big deal. This is my first summer with silkies so I've only dealt with temps in the 90's so far. They have done fine in the 90's with just shade and plenty of fresh water. I've seen them panting so I know they are hot but they also aren't used to this climate completely yet so I try and watch them closely. Sonoran might respond to your post if she sees it, she lives in a similar climate as I do so she might be able to give better first hand experience. What I plan on doing is beefing up the shade in the runs with some wooden blinds, freezing 2 liters and bottles and taking them out on rotation to set in the shade and to add to their waterers. My coops have pretty good ventilation so hopefully that won't be a problem but I'm not opposed to setting up a box fan or something to give them a breeze in their runs during the day. I've also heard giving them a shallow pan of water to stand in helps to cool them off as well and misting them.

Very nice! I have a question, though--how do you pronounce your name? Like Lassie the collie or like coal with a long E added on the end? Or something else entirely?

Thank you & good question

My first name is Nîchole pronounced "knee-coal" so my nickname is usually Cole or Colie so yes with the long E. I've reserved the web address of show time silkies but I'd much rather actually start showing before I start tagging my pictures with that so I had to think of something lol I get paranoid of picture theft since I've had it happen to me before but not of my birds.

I love seeing large pictures as well but when it's of my own birds I start nit picking. Good and bad lol Maybe I'll post super small pics from now on so everyone assumes my birds are awesome LOL jk jk!
