Here are my new babies but the lighter one has blends of other colors in it so I dont know what to call this.
They came just in time to keep me sane. See my family is from Alabama where the tornados hit only I am stuck here in Texas, if it wasn't for these little chicks
I think I would have lost my mind they give me hope that there has to be something worth hoping for. Its hard to explain unless you have been through this.

hanks for the info you two, as ive seen locally silikes go for cheap to somewhat expensive, and on here in auctions and such go for alot. im assuming im seeing differance not asked about, from pet to show quality? has anyone actually done a looking at insides of any culls and/or roos to make sure silkies have full characteristic of black insides pigment? just noticing alot of non black skin, that thought was charactoristic of all true silkies (seen alot without all five or even four full toes as adults also that are supposedly show quality).

When I used a styrofoam incubator, the eggs turn round end up in the turner so for hatching, I hatched in the bottom of the egg carton, but I personally did not remove the cup bottoms. Had better luck that way.
Now I have Lyon incubators and the eggs incubate on their sides and I hatch the same way, on their sides.

I help a chick if it has been pipped for at least 24hours, still alive and not making progress. Because some of my highly vaulted chicks can have a hard time moving their head around in there to get the job done. They can and do die once pipped so each one is valueable to me so rescue if needed. If I try to help and see veining still or fresh blood I stop, moisten the membrane and put it back. Once the veining and fresh blood stop when you try to help, its usually safe to help the chick out.

We had an UGLY silkie roo I found at a local flea market I felt so sorry for him and am a sucker for silkies. He had an awful attitude and we just let him run free and he kept to himself he loved cooked oatmeal! Anyways he had NO "Good qualities" about him he had a single comb bigger then my SQ roosters and only had 3 toes. He had alot of hard feathers also. (My brother loved him is why we kept him around) Anyways he was killed by a dog. He might not have been in standard quality but he had black skin and also had black meat inside. so they don't have to be of BQ or SQ to have the black skin or insides.

I wanted my silkie friends to know I was selling some eggs from a project pen this is a work in progress I just learned my roo is NOT black with gold leakage but a brown red silkie he is in with a blue hen. This color together in cochins makes lemon blue I have eggs in my bator but no hatched chicks from this pair yet. I need to let some eggs go because I don't wanna waste them. So if anyone is interested my ebay auction link is in my signature.

My comment on this is if someone has a silkie that doesn't have black skin or the correct number of toes and it selling them as show quality they are a scammer and/or very misinformed. I would NOT buy from them. Not uniform black skin happens more often in project colors is my understanding but in your basic colors you shouldn't be seeing it in anything SQ. You might see someone call a bird that is BQ with not the correct number of toes but since that is a DQ no way that could be a SQ bird. Personally unless said bird with incorrect toes was pretty awesome with everything other quality I wouldn't call them BQ. That's just me though.

Wow its nice to see what a Lovely flock you have keep up the great work!! Simply beautiful!

Thanks! I have so many more birds that totally deserve a photo shoot just got to drag my butt outside and starting clicking away again. I can't claim any of these guys as my own hard work though since I didn't breed them myself but hopefully next year I can brag a bit
