Silkie thread!

Hey, you're needed over on ASBC. Odd colors popping out of lav/buff.

Been busy building sets for Music Camp at church, so barely home all week; I'll pop over and see what's going on...

I have a rooster pen with two 2x2 cages. The pen iteself is fairly large, and when I added the younger set of birds (during one of our irrigation cycles which happened at night), I locked them in the 2nd cage I had moved there specifically for them. After water soaked in and I let them out, I figured they would mostly end up using the 2nd cage as their nightly coop. (Neither is closed on any regular basis.) Nope; they ALL cram into the one 2x2

silly birds.

First his droppings are probably due to the drugs you gave him. Put him on a pro-biotic to help speed up rebalancing his gut. Since this has been going on so long all you can do is support him for now. If it was a toxin chances are too much time has gone by and now its going to be up to him to pull through. I also have a thing about having males on layer feed of any kind. Their bodies do not need the extra calcium which means their kidneys work harder to remove the excess calcium.

What do you suggest I feed him? Also what kind of Pro-biotic should I give to him?? Also The droppings were like this before I gave him any medication. I have looked at the website of the different colors of poo his does not look adnormal but the poo is always runny.

Have you wormed him? or checked for lice and mites?

Grains will also help solidify runny poop, as will DE. WHen I want to give my birds a probiotic, I get a plain yogurt with as many cultures as I can find.

I was thinking that if i put a second small coop in there that they might still all go to one. I guess I will build a bigger one with a different run and then figure out what to do with the original one later! I wasn't planning on wanting more

im curious to see picks of six toed chickens, or more, any show up with extra legs and/or wing/s? itd be neat to see a chicken with a third eye by or on were its comb is. think of the way theyd always be able to see oncoming raptors!

He has been wormed and that is the 1st thing I checked for was mites or lice. He has none as I can tell. I gave him some ACV in his water today and yogurt too.

I have not posted on this thread before, although I read it daily and subscribe to it (along with the other silkie threads and the ASBC forum), trying to learn all I can. I have wanted silkies for many years, and when DH suggested getting laying hens, I decided that it was the right time

I got 5 little ones in April, from a semi-local breeder. I lost 3 to mysterious leg paralysis issue (had them euthanized by a vet

) and I didn't realize I could have necropsies done till after I buried the last one, sigh. Well the two survivors are doing great, and I am very attached to them. They are Stevie, a black cockerel, and Zoey , a blue pullet. Although my dream is SQ whites, I intend to keep these two for life as my little pets.

Well, this am, Zoey looked me square in the face, and crowed. Three times. With a little warble after each crow

Now what. Do I get pullets for each of them, do I get pullets for the two of them and do a bBS pen? I know the blue came out of BBS breeding, I'm not sure about the black. I don't know how 'good' they will be as they mature. Do I try to convince DH that we need a bachelor pad for the two of them (which at this point would pretty much guarantee my death! since the original coop isn't finished), and still go on with my dream of finding an excellent quality white pair/trio/quad?

I'm a bit stunned. As an aside, I could have sworn zoey was a pullet, she certainly acts like one, and Stevie treats her as if she were. A lessone learned

She looks like a pullet., aka as Mama's little princess, sigh....

I am not going to put either of them on CL, and take a chance that they will be neglected, mishandled or end up in a bad way. Makes it more complicated because I am very attached to them.

starina--
well, just love the two boys. now you can buy more pullets this time. just pullets--no mixed or straight run--pullets only! that should make you, the two boys, and hubby happy! a win-win!
