I love the light blue, it is hard not to keep the lighter ones. I wonder when they become too light for standard. Is yours great for breeding but not good for showing? I know my rooster is good but a few of my babies look like they could be lighter and I really want to keep them.
This is Hot Coal Mine. He is a good color, I have him with a lot of light splash hens. I know that is getting me the light ones.
( He came from Jack and she came from Bobbi )

Other than those you mentioned at hatch, the only thing I watch is type and coloring develop. I don't even start looking for other faults until about 8 months old. Some I wait until 10 months.

Thanks! I was wondering why I hadn't got a response to that. This thread moves pretty quickly, so may have gotten overlooked. Mine are 2 weeks old today, and yesterday I checked toes. Out of 14, two didn't make the cut. One had 4 toes on one foot, and another had 5 toes on each foot, but on one foot, the 5th toe was extremely small, almost like a genetic afterthought.

The rest seem to be developing well, nice foot feathering, short and round little bodies, and the colors are starting to come in on the lighter colored chicks. The Partridge seem to be the most consistent in coloring (so far), and conformity. I have learned patience from my Marans, as they can change so drastically from week to week, and take about 9 months or better to get your final results.

I think he will go good with my girls. Aimee traded me some Porcelain for some of my blacks, then she came down to visit and brought me some Partridge to trade for two more of my Black boys and a girl... LOVE her Porcelains and the Partridge I got from her! Hers and mine will go good together. She also got a Black boy from Vickie that came from me. So now I'm real anxious to see what they produce together. I've never seen any of her Blacks til this picture of your boy.

Speaking of horses... go to my Ranch page and click on the word play at the top.. It's a video of Sal's horse playing with the goat... I have a series of videos of them playing king of the dirt pile. too cute!
