Other than those you mentioned at hatch, the only thing I watch is type and coloring develop. I don't even start looking for other faults until about 8 months old. Some I wait until 10 months.
Thanks! I was wondering why I hadn't got a response to that. This thread moves pretty quickly, so may have gotten overlooked. Mine are 2 weeks old today, and yesterday I checked toes. Out of 14, two didn't make the cut. One had 4 toes on one foot, and another had 5 toes on each foot, but on one foot, the 5th toe was extremely small, almost like a genetic afterthought.
The rest seem to be developing well, nice foot feathering, short and round little bodies, and the colors are starting to come in on the lighter colored chicks. The Partridge seem to be the most consistent in coloring (so far), and conformity. I have learned patience from my Marans, as they can change so drastically from week to week, and take about 9 months or better to get your final results.
Silkies change alot too.........just slower
Seems like with mine, once they hit 10 months old, that is how they will look at a year old. But how they look at 3-5months is gone by 10 months......if that makes sense.
I swear my splash rooster looks nothing like he did at 5-6 months.
