You can compare the toenail length of the two. If the black really is several months older she should have longer nails.

does this apply if the nails have been trimmed?

Of course not. You may be surprised at the number of people that don't trim chicken nails.

If LittleChickenLady trimmed them before showing, she may have noticed if there was a difference in the two. If she didn't trim them, she can check now.

I thought that was number 2 rule of showing, trim nails & beak.

Any experience with head injuries?

I'm sooo mad and upset. My husband didn't nail down a 1x1 roost in the pen and one fell and hit my gorgeous black/lav split hen in the head.

I'm soo upset. She's still alive but is nodding her head and won't stand up. Is there ANYthing I can do to help her survive this?

just got home from teh vets office. She got fluids, cortisone, and pain killer. She can walk but mostly stands or lays still. She's staying upright and not falling over. This pic was taken before the vet visit and she was using her wings for balance. hopefully she'll make a nice recovery. Vet gave me her home phone number in case i need it. gotta love a vet that's open on Sunday AND gives me her number for chicken emergencies.

Back to the vet this afternoon and she was tube fed. We'll take her back tomorrow where she'll spend the day and get constant feedings and they'll show me how to tube feed her myself. sooo... hanging in there. I thought she was a gonner when I got home from work. We'll keep fighting for her.
