Silkie thread!

Of course not. You may be surprised at the number of people that don't trim chicken nails.

If LittleChickenLady trimmed them before showing, she may have noticed if there was a difference in the two. If she didn't trim them, she can check now.

I thought that was number 2 rule of showing, trim nails & beak.

You must have missed the bold part.

Hi all,
I purchased two silkies this Spring..as they are not sexed..I am going to assume I might have a roo..
Here are the photos of both..they were hatched the same day but the difference in size is ...well is sizable..LOL

i just love your babies!
This is a small world ---
I have a GaGa, when I thought she was a boy, I just changed her name to GaGaRoo... I actually like it better than just GaGa...
and... I also have one named after Phyliis Diller ... buy I call her Dilly-Pearl

It does look like your GaGa is growing streamers, so I am guessing Roo also...
but don't let size throw you... I had basically identical chicks hatched at the same time from the same mom and dad.... one was just tiny and I was convinced I had a girl .... right up until he crowed. He was the tiniest little Rooster but had the biggest personality ---- none of mine are for show or breeding -- just for pets, so personality is all I really look for.

Have fun with you silkies!

What a wild few days here. The Heat was over the top, 107 on friday with a heat index of 122. Needless to say I brought all the silkies in the house to the basement. My barn looks like a ghosttown. But finding places to put 70 breeding birds was not easy!

I had to make one big area to put all the hens. So all my girls are in one HUGE temp pen. All were in with boys until they came into the house, now I have girls laying & have no idea who layed what! I don't need the eggs anyway, bator is full, brooders are overflowing & I have run out of room for chicks!

Maybe I'll do an egg auction, since they will be in the bin for another day or so. I have 2 dozen eggs from today already!

Oh that is soo funny!! I was thinking Mr G..if it turns out she is a he.. Well they both are characters but I must admit the black one, Phyllis is the most docile and smallest, but quick and smart. Mine our just for eggs and pets..I don't care how they really turn out.

(although I kind of wish that The "G" would start getting more puffy up top)

That's a great idea! The "surprise" egg auctions are always fun!
