Ok, here is a picture of all of them @ a week old. Could you tell me the color you think they are .

Minnie Cukes's crest is looking kinda like a roo to me in that picture hmmm... My young guys like to fight with each other and pluck out each other's feather sometimes maybe that would explain the loss of feathers on your chickies. Also my young guys like to attempt to "court" the ladies and can pull out more than a few crest feathers if they get overzealous!
...Or maybe... she (minne cuke) is really just maturing and is really a he? Little Head's feathers changing like that around the hackle area is just him growing up IMO. I can't tell totally from the picture but does Little Head have that color coming out all over or just where you can see it in the picture? (Also any idea of the breeding behind that little one color wise?)
I have some blues and blacks that went from a solid color and now as they are growing into their soon to be adult rooster-hood I'm seeing the gold and silver leakage coming in. Kinda bums me out a little

Anyhow I'm betting someone else has a more definite opinion than I do, I'm rambling a little lol

Your birds could just be molting. It happens and will have them refeathering and looking good again. Your black...looks black, has silver in his hackles I think. That is common in the males, either silver or gold will leak through. It is hard to find a good BLACK male after their first year. Silver and gold would be DQs. If you are into working towards the standards then keep the best black males you can.

My advice is either duct tape yourself to a chair where you can't stare at the eggies every single second and drive yourself nuts OR go to sleep and hopefully wake up like a kid on Christmas to lots of good surprises fluffy and waiting for you

Colie have you made your trip yet? You should try and swing through north Texas and maybe we can meet. I go back to work this Friday but maybe you can time it after 5ish or a week end?

Bren, no I haven't made my trip yet. I was just telling my friend that we are going to make a pit stop on the way back west to see you! Of course she giggled about me and my silly silkies

I'll hopefully (and most likely) be coming thru the end of the month but I can most definitely time it on the weekend. Please don't mind my silliness when you see me though I'll probably be jumping up and down just to actually meet another silkie person aka someone that doesn't think I'm nuts!

We are the NORMAL folks...working day after day in 115 degree weather, misting birds every hour on the hour while it is triple digits. Now I am feeling the relief of the cool front that came through and enjoying the 104 days. LOL LOL

Give me a heads up when you think you might drift this way....
