Thank You.... we are very pleased with our Silkie babies. We weren't going to get Silkies but now we can't stop!

We have 8 silkies I love them!
When do roosters start crowing?
We have two blue splash silkies who are gorgeous but showing all signs of being roos, they are 5-6 months old
We have a multi-color frizzle roo who started crowing at 3 months.
We did end up with a" runt" shes the size of a 8 week old. Dont think its grown since we got it.
The others appear to be hens, however if my assumptions are correct i dont need or want 3 roosters for 5 hens.
But on the otherhand they are so gorgeous, cuddly, show quality, i cant imagine rehoming them.
I find myself in a trance when i watch them. So much different then my standard chickens.
I am hoping the girls start laying soon, and that they are broody, would love to raise a couple clutches of babies!

Oh yes we did badly.. had only intentions of having 2 of them and we have six in a months time! My 8 yr old brings them all around the house with her, they watch TV, play littlest petshop, play her video games and have even sat on the table while she ate lunch! I've renamed that child the chicken princess.

My Dad is not a chicken fan. He told me repeatedly that chickens are stupid and he hates chickens. He even told the chickens when we were chasing them that he hates chickens. He had some experience with chickens growing up and worked in a place shoveling manure...which I am sure colored his perception. Well, my Araucanas have grown on him and he told me the other day that they are "Really smart chickens."

So I got some chicks. He hasn't been overly fond of them, but I think they are growing on him. He knows nothing about "fancy" chickens. Just regular ole chickens. So I have two partridge silkie chicks and a white crested black polish. The polish has been more obvious because of the big bowl on her head and the fact that she has gotten picked on.

I showed him the picture of the pink silkie on here a few months ago. And I have mentioned that the chicks are silkies. But I don't think he has in any way related the picture of the pink chicken to the silkies we have. So today I showed him one of the chicks. (He immediately became worried that i am not keeping the chicks warm enough- cause he HATES chickens that much) and he tells me..."It looks like their is something wrong with his feathers." I just tell him that she is going to look different then the other chickens and he shrugs and goes on. I can't wait until the chicks are fully feathered out to see his reaction to what they look like. What a hoot!

Thank you.. we are trying to do the best we can researching A LOT as we go since this is our first time with chickens. We did do unknown chicks a couple years ago bought at the feed store. I kept them for a couple weeks and gave them to my neighbor they were MEAN and we didn't like them at all. This time we researched breeds and only bought breeds known to be docile and only from show breeders. My Polish were brought in from NY to FL as I wasn't finding what we wanted locally.

They plan to at some point show and breed all their birds, the girls even have a name to their business already. My husband does web design on his off time (he's a FF/Medic) so he's already purchased their domain name so he can get a site up for them.

If one of the chickens starts eating with a fork not just off it I'm hoping I can get a big pay day..LOL. Yes the chickens do eat off forks and spoons if they happen to be on the table during lunch.

Cute pic!!

I've even contemplated buying a bird cage, so I could keep one in the house. Naturally, my husband isn't too fond of the idea. I can't wait to see them first thing in the morning and look forward to putting them to bed at night. They are like children, you just can't get enough of them.

Glad to see that your girls are enjoying them. I love to hatch and have babies all the time!

See you soon

If chickens are dumb I got 1 for him...I had sold a barred rock to someone about 3 blocks away from where I live and the people had taken taken her home and the very next morning when I woke I went outside to tend to my chickens and look at the front and there sits that hen that I had sod the day before and lives a few blocks away.So I walked to the back yard to finish tending to my chickens and here she is following me all around so I gave hr a treat and the afternoon the people came by and asked if I had seen the chicken & I said yes she is in the yard eating with the rest of them. They told me they opened the cage gate to let their chickens free range. So the end of the store is.If chickens are dumb how in the world did that chicken find her way back to my house that night or next morning. People ask Why did the chicken cross the road? Answer is to get back home. True story.
