Silkie thread!

Cute partridge chicks !

I also got some partridge chicks recently, but not sure the actual parentage & trying to figure that out. My partridge chicks appear to be cochin by the confirmation & toe number. I had a black silkie roo in with black silkie hens & 1 buff hen. Plus temporarily had a red cochin cockeral that I thought was a hen but matured into a rooster in the same yard. Plus a black cochin & a navy blue cochin hen. Six out of the 7 hens each had a nest. The blue cochin nest hatched out only cochin looking chicks but included 3 adorable partridges and a black cochin chick. Is there anyway to tell if the partridges are cochins or crossed with the silkie. The silkies spend their time away from the cochins or else chasing them. Rarely ever did the silkie roo breed the cochins. Could someone please post a link to a good color-genetic site. I had a good one but lost it,think it was European origin. Thanks !

This is my friends new black silkie she got from Sandy

The black one is only 10 weeks old and has the biggest top not I have seen for that age!

But I don't have BR, I do have LF EEs and LF Polish with my Sizzles/Silkie and they're okay... but consider dynamics and pecking order:

(if you're still considering co-mingling) How many BR do you have that are "aggressive" and established in your flock? They could be removed and reintroduced, falling them down the pecking order ( but your Silkie is kind of young - I'm sure your BR are adults).

Also, sometimes it's easier if your Silkie can see, use 14 Day Blue Painter's Tape for the crest (it's less adhesive).

Good luck and share pix of the little guy/gal when you can!

I need a little help guys... I posted this in the Emergencies/diseases/injuries category, but I know all you have silkies and might have seen it before....

When I went out to feed everyone this morning I noticed my 6-8 wk old silkie chick was lethargic. I picked her up and she started stretching upwards and laying her head back on her back. I brought her in the house and have managed to get some vitamin/electrolyte water in her. Her actions remind me of when I had a day old foal with colic, it would stretch and throw it's head back because of the pain. Her crop is not full. I think I feel a lump in her neck, but it could be just her neck bone because of the way she's holding her head. Kinda like a duck, with her breast sicking out and her neck folded between her shoulder blades. Right now I have her propped up in a towel, she is almost perpendicular, but that is how she seems most comfortable. Could this be wry neck? She doesn't seem to have any of the typical symptoms of that, except her balance is off, especially when she's trying to stretch up and back. She falls to the side and has to catch herself with her wing. I don't have any vitamin E/selenium, but the lady I bought her from does, if anybody thinks that may help.

Here is a video of what she's doing. (Keep in mind, she may be a he, too young to tell, just wishful thinking on my part)

If anyone has ever seen anything like this or has any suggestions, please let me know! I've been reading since this morning but can't seem to find any posts with similar behavior. Thanks in advance!!
Everybody please keep their fingers & chicken toes crossed that I can nurse her back to health!!
