Silkie thread!

I found a couple places. Never ran across anybody forcing a rooster on me. However i dont live in an area where i can have a flock of roosters crowing at all hours of the day and night. So the rooster need to go and i will bring more females in. Everybody i talk to says they are over roostered this year. However 4 roosters to 2 females is a bit much. We arent breeders. They are pets.

take a look at the BYC chicken auctions - some people even list as "buy it now," which means no bidding. The price they state is the price you pay. My friend just got a gorgeous silky last week - it was considered pet because of coloring. That doesn't detract from the personality, etc. I have seen many offered - including pullet pairs - no rooster forced on you. My friend couldn't have roos either. You do want to buy something old enough so the breeder can be almost positive about gender.

I just noticed that this morning one of my little brothers black silkies had a single comb. I was shocked. It's parents were some blues of mine. All the other silkies i have have a walnut comb. He is a 1/30 case. Any ideas why? I have a picture but it doesn't really show the comb well but you can tell it is not a walnut comb.

Question! My silkie chicks are 8 weeks old today. A couple of days ago I noticed a couple of them shaking their heads, kind of like a kid when their hair gets to long and they throw it out of their eyes. Today, they were all doing it! When I held them up to look them straight in the eyes, I realized their cheek fluff was curling up and irritating their eyes so my daughter and I trimmed it with blunt scizzors (still scary!) and within an hour or so the shaking was gone. Is this commom and am I going to have to trim them all every few days? Have you all experienced this? I only have 12 right now and fortunally they were very tame. I'm wondering what people do with hundreds of them?

yes...Ive used hair gel made with unflavored gelatin and a little water to keep it down, it dries like cement and cannot irritate their eyes. (80s hair trick, LOL)
