Silkie thread!

yes some are extremely talkative, some are really quiet... just certain personalities. I have some that barely chatter at all, and I have some that will "talk your ear off" with fussing. lol

The size thing, one thing is age, another is breeding. I have some silkies that are nice and light and small. Then I have 2 girls and 1 boy that are quite big and two or three times the weight of the rest, it just depends. Some breeders don't take size in regards to breeding, and more and more silkies are getting bigger than the standard calls for...While some still stick to the actual bantam aspect of the silkies - which is 2-3 lbs tops. Hope that helps.

One of my older girls talks like crazy!

Thanks! She's really talkative for sure!

I'm trying to fatten her up a bit, as she seems kind of boney to me.
She's only about 4 months old, but my other girl (just slightly older) is so nicely filled out.

Don't you just love the talkers! Some of them never shut up. I have a pullet I named "Yacker" I love it when they all talk to me when I feed. I find that to be one of the most fascinating aspects of a chicken, all the different sounds that they make. Non- poultry folks just don't have a clue as to how amazing it is, just to sit for an hour and watch and listen to a chicken. I have read that sitting quietly and just listening and watching is a real stress breaker, and it is. I know I always feel better, if I go out and sit and watch the birds, they can be quite comical as well.
A petite silkie is a good thing. Silkies are getting far too big. I have been breeding down in size for a couple of years. When you can barely get your silkie through the door of a bantam coop, it's time to do something. LOL

Just wondering if anyone knows why they are getting bigger? I understand it can be due to different lines in the genes but how are they getting bigger if originally they were all more of the bantam size. It seems I am getting both and I did start with different lines but some are hatching larger and some are more petite.
