Silkie thread!

Those birds are absolutely hideous! You must immediately pack them up and send them to me!

Opinions of these two? If memory serves me, they are around 6 weeks old. They are both grey if the pic does not reflect that.

It has blk and white striped feathers on the crest.

This one has a solid crest that is grey brown.

Their feet are dirty but they have 5 toes and pretty good feathering. I know they are not a std. color. I have my flock mixed right now and hatched a few mixed color eggs with my daughter.

Spowell!!!

Your greys are gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!

The bottom one is a pullet and has lovely barring on her wings. Also her crest is a dead giveaway as to sex along with the barring

The first one I can not tell as it looks like the wind is blowing at the babies head! lol

But, I have to say the top one represents a better color grey and with time will show that. The second one has brown/gold leakage and I would have to think it has Partridge in its backround. That is not a bad thing at all just makes it more obvious to tell its color backround. I learned alot this weekend at the show from another breeder of grey's Gilda. I hope I am quoting her properly

I would like to see more toe feathering on the third/middle toe. That could come in time. Also any chance of seeing a picture of their wings spread out? Its more for my curiousity than anything else if its not too much trouble.
Thanks
Beth :)

Hi Everyone!

The egg was marked partridge, but I know she said one of her 2 roosters were new, and I hatched one of the first batch of eggs fertilized by him...She only had a Lav roo over black hens, so it could be somehow how Lavender rooster got ahold of a red parti girl? I have NO idea. Many say this color comes from a bad porcelain breeding, this chick definitely has lavender in it, the wings and underfluff of the belly and vent/tail area is definitely lavender. It was ALOT brighter orange and now is lightening out to this color in the picture. I am going to hold onto this one - I plan to get into Porcelain at somepoint this year, so next year may have to experiment with Sherbert and see. lol

Unless the partridge mama was split to lav, there would be no visible lavender, even if the papa supplies a copy of lav. lav has ABSOLUTELY NO AFFECT ON APPEARANCE unless present in two copies. And when present in two copies, ALL pigment is diluted: both red and black.

Ok Beth G., here are the pics you asked for. Not so easy to take the photo and try to hold on to the little boogers! Oh, and Thanks, I didn't even know they were greys. I don't have any. So these babies must have a milkman for a daddy
lau.gif

Seriously, I put a small group of mix matched silkies together for the winter until I found mates for them. I had a white roo and 4 white hens, 1 buff hen and a partridge hen.
How I came out with 2 Greys is a mystery. Maybe someone will came up with a answer......

This is from the chick with the dark topknot.

These are from the first pic of the lighter chick with the black striped crest and white neck

Oh thank you very much for showing me. I was more curious to see what their wing barring looked like so I could compare to the one I've got at home.

I can not help you on the color genetics as I am not good enough to say too much on that subject. April and Gilda explained alot to me this weekend at the show (and I am ever so grateful they shared their expertise with me!) and I am in such aww at how much those two great ladies know! If April sees this maybe she can help explain it to you. I have dislexia and tend to say alot backwards and try to avoid trying to say too much or I will mess it up and would feel terrible is someone took my advice when I twisted it and I messed them up too!
