Silkie thread!

Hi I have a few lavs for breeding and my splits look blue like yours especially as chicks and now they are...hmmm well guessing i would say 4mos now...when you get old your mind needs to have the chicken diaries in front of it to recall exact dates...... but they are now black not blue....i know they are splits cause dad is a pure lav or self blue. So maybe yours will be like mine.

Yipee eggs...i once got a pullet egg that was the size of a robins egg I was like hey there wasnt that kind of a lot of energy wasted on that....anyways good sized egg and you can hatch it if you like...i like to wait a bit as sometimes the chicks are bigger with later eggs but go for it and Congratulations.

Today, I got my FIRST silkie egg!!!

I'm soooooo excited! It's a pullet egg, my babies are just around 7 or 8 months old. I was so shocked! How long do I need to wait to incubate these babies?? A week... or less?? How long are they considered "pullet eggs"? Okay... dumb observation, I didn't realize that silkie eggs were this dark! ha! (I placed a white store bought egg next to it to tell size and color.)

Chris, that is so cute that you got a tiny little egg like that! I bet it was adorable-- did you eat it or throw it away? I think I'm going to eat this first egg I got-- it was pretty cold when I picked it up. I just assumed that I needed to wait a week or two before I could use any of their eggs! I'll need to start checking really well too-- because this one was hidden in the chips. I put a little nest box in there for them now, so maybe they'll use that. We shall see! :)

That's what I was thinking myself. I thought she looked awfully dark for a lavender. Then again, I know nothing about lavenders.
The person I bought the chick from apparently got the eggs from someone through the forum here. I probably got jipped. lol That's ok, whatever the chick is. They're just pets. I don't breed for anything and I don't show my birds. The showing is something I'd be interested doing in the future. :)

question.... a blue silkie rooster over a white silkie hen will result in what color chick

when you breed to white there is honestly no telling what you will get until you breed it. White is a mute/masking color, the white hides the color genetics of anything under neath. It might be fun to breed and find out, thats the only way to know color the hen might throw. Though you have a chance to get some off color or leaky colors when you breed 2 different colors.

Hi Silkie Lovers, I am mostly a lurker but a budding Silkie-aholic ;) First bought hatchery chicks in November, then bought same age paint chicks in December, now it's January and I've just placed an order for about 14-15 hopefully show quality Lavender, Porcelain, Splash & Blue babies that my 4 yr old and I can start showing (they arrive next week).... guess thats a good example of chicken math??
I took some fun photos a few days ago... thought ya'll might enjoy :) They all free range when I'm at home during the day, and I gotta say I LOVE watching them interact with each other, it is very soothing!!
