Silkie thread!

Got a new to Silkies type of question here. Do Silkie pullets typically try to bury their eggs in the bedding?? Could this be an indication that they are trying to hide them from me so they can brood?? Out of 8 pullets, I am getting between 5-8 eggs daily, they are putting my Marans ladies to shame! I have NEVER had a broody hen, so I wondered if this is an indicator? Bedding is a mix of shavings and topped with straw. They seem to prefer the straw, and have made 4 nests. No one has been caught sitting on the eggs, and they are very sweet about me robbing the nests. Sometimes, I really have to dig around in the nests, and some of them are under 2" or so of straw. Any thoughts?

I've watched my silkies lay. I have shavings that they lay in. They like to take their wings and scrape all the shavings up around them. It is really cute. They even manage to throw shavings up on top of their backs when they are doing it. They really nestle down in there. But after they are all done, the eggs aren't buried in the chips... just sitting there. Perhaps your hens are doing something similar, but because of the bedding looks differently? But I really like Sonoran's answer! :)

hatching my "fridge silkie eggs under broodies I have had about 50-60% hatch rate. And the eggs I did it with the first time were 1-2 weeks old in the fridge! I just recently sold 2 chicks to another byc'er (we named them fridge and freezer) that were fridge eggs and they were very healthy, happy chickies : ) And my fridge has problems freezing stuff in the fridge most of the time to! LOL So I know its possible......

WOW!! I had no idea that they would still be mostly okay! I don't think I want to chance that... but I don't know! Maybe so!! TOO funny about their names!! Good to know! Thanks for the heads up. I may just grab those eggs out of there and toss them in with the others!

I think they are just nestling into the nests when they lay and the eggs get buried. I do not think it has anything to do with broodiness or trying to hide eggs. Ducks and geese, on the other hand very much DO bury their nests to hide them. When brooding, when they get up to eat, drink, poop, they bury them, then dig them out to re-set on them.
Well, at first I thought that too, but it's like finding a nest, on top of another nest. I do need to expand the coop for them as they are out growing it. Maybe they are just compensating for the lack of space? There will be a nest with 2-3 eggs in it, then they cover that nest with straw (sometimes a couple of inches deep), and then make a nest of that and lay some more. Crazy chickens!

They have usually two other areas free, and seem to prefer laying on top of each other. Amazing to me, is that none of the eggs get broken...

Ok, so I am back with pics. These are from my 2.5 week old silkies I hatched. They were sold to me as buffs, and one was supposed to be red partridge because she didn't have a full amount of buff eggs.
I have 4 that look like this

and then this 1.

Not so much. I mean, its so confusing. I feel bad, because the seller was really nice. I don't even want to question her, but what in the world did I get? They all have dark black skin, and 5 toes.

Ok, I went out to torture them some more.
I mean, their feathers aren't like a normal chicken. I have only raised 2 silkies before these, so I don't even remember what they looked like when they started to feather out.
Here is their wings spread.
