Silkie thread!

would u say hes showable or atleast breeder quailty also whats the hackles the thin feathers infront of the tail feathers

Hackles are the feathers on the back of the neck. I'm not a good person to ask about showing as I am physically unable to travel and have never been to a show. So much depends on the size of the show and the competition that is available. If he doesn't have any DQ's it might be worth a try. I would wait a while till he feathers in a bit more. My boy had twice the feathers at 10 months that he did at 7 months.

Hello All,

I have only had chickens for about 12 months and have recently added 3 x 12 week old silkies to the mix...I have been trying to work out wether this little darling is male or female?

Anyone able to tell?

I am also thinking about getting into 'showing' birds but I have no idea how to tell what qualifies as a show bird. Can anyone point me in the right direction? The last thing I want to register at a show and then feel like an idiot so I thought I would research it now.

This is him/her before the big downpour

Sorry he/she got a bit wet when I was talking this photo due to the rain.

Any help or advise would be great...Thanks so much in advance I really really love my little silkies!

Cheers

Leonie

Pretty sure its a boy... The deep rich reddish orange and chocolate/black in the wings is typical in the Ginger toned partridge boys.
