Silkie thread!

Ok let me make this question easier to understand and not quite as rambly..... LOL

If I breed a Buff hen to a Partridge roo what will I get?

If I breed a Buff hen to a White roo what will I get?

I really want more buffs and I only have one.... soooo, I didnt know if they bred true or if you had to breed a cerain color with a certain color. Thanks in advance!

Here is a picture of my Buff hen at a younger age. She isnt laying yet but when she does you better believe she is going to give me some chicks! Lol

BTW Im still not even sure is purely buff. Someone suggested maybe a partridge buff mix?

hawkeye i totally agree mine have small crest:( i cant find ones that have big crest :( but in my mind thats really the only thing wrong with the hen but the pullet has a small crest to my cockerel is the best ive found it has a very nice comb and beard but crest lacks but hes young so could grow in his feet are preety good to and has a nice cusion has no hard feathers and has a short back in my mind the wings arent very good on him

I'm so sorry, I retracted it because I thought they were non-bearded! I thought their wings were nice! And their combs are very nice, too! They are the right shape and color and not too big. I have a nice cockerel, but his comb is on the large side. I'm just going to hope his offspring might be offset by the hen. So if it's what you have to work with, then that's what you have to work with! I'd be really particular about culling hard on your offspring and work on the larger crests. I bet you can get there! Yeah, his back is short, so you're okay there.

ETA: I think the small crests really threw me off into thinking non-bearded. Again, I should have looked closer and I apologize. :)

No one else has jumped in so I'll take a stab at it. Then they can come along and mop up my mess.

To get buff I'm pretty sure you need to breed buff x buff. I think if you breed your buff to partridge, you will probably get more partridges only without the standart coloring that's desired. If you breed anything but white to white, you are dipping your hand into the mystery bag and have no idea what you'll come up with. This is because white covers or hides whatever its other color is, and you don't know what that color is until you breed it to a non-white. This is generally not advised, at least not unless you know your birds bloodlines and are very experienced.

As for what your hen is, she doesn't look quite buff to me, but buff is a color with which I have very little experience. Maybe she's what people call a smutty buff? But I think that is usually tinting of black...not sure though. Maybe you could find a buff male for her? Cockerel's and roos are SO much easier to find than the ladies! And she is such a lovely girl!

i agree with everything but if u know the bloodlines of ur whites and know there is no hiden genes then breeding buff to white u will get more buffs but buff to partridge will give u like a buff looking partridge or atleast mine do but country chicken pretty much sumed it up :)
