Got my first two silkies today. One is 4 days old the other is 11 days old. The woman who sold them to me seems to think one might be a roo but I thought it was hard to sex them until they are couple weeks of age?

And can someone please thoroughly explain bearded vs non bearded? I thought I understood the difference but after looking again thru pictures on google today I'm not sure I'm totally getting it. I do notice that some silkies have a bigger "poof" of feathers on top and around their head covering their eyes and some don't. But then I also have seen some with no feathers on their neck at all. When I went to pick up these chicks this morning I did see the hen and roo and they both were fully feathered, the hen just didn't have that big poof on top of her head. So I'm assuming these guys won't as well. Which if fine. I'm just not a big fan of the ones I've seen showing nothing but skin on their necks, they look a bit like turkeys - no offense to anyone who has them! LOL

I also noticed today that one of my silkies (the youngest one, pictured in my avatar picture) has only 4 toes, not 5. Been doing some reading up on that. Doesn't really matter to me at this point because it's not like I plan to show or even breed these chicken (yet). But if I do end up with a roo and hen out of the two I have will they throw more 4 toed babies if they breed?
