Silkie thread!

Okay, well I ended up with 6 Silkie chicks! I candled the others tonight, and 4 were not fertile (I never candled those, they were under a different hen). And 1, under the hen I did candle eggs, died at some point. Anyway, I'm still happy with 6, and I have another hen under 4 that should be due soon. I candled hers, and they're all fertile and making. I was going to toss those eggs originally because I thought 2 were old, and the 4 got mixed together. Then the hen went broody, and I just stuck them under her not sure what would happen.

Can't remember the due date, but I hope it's Thursday - my birthday. lol

Hawkeye - Still thinking of your hatch! Got my fingers crossed.

Wow this is working out better than I thought it would! My causin is going to school for computer art stuff and her boyfriend is going for web design so their working together to make my website for school credit!!! Looks like my website will be up soon

Most breeders prefer to keep blue and lav genes separate rather than one bird carrying both.

agreed. If you decided to outbreed lavender do so with Black not blue. anytime you get 'splits' (lavender to black) the black offspring you can't visibly tell if they will produce lavender or not, so it can be a bit difficult with a breeding program.

Silkielover-- cute chick!! Neat logo, too! :)

Thanks ChickensXOXO... nothing happening yet. But there is another crack a little bit over from the original one, and that's about it for now. Hopefully it makes some more progress tonight or tomorrow morning.

Wow! Six is great!!

Good morning ladies and gents,

Can anyone tell me what's a fair price for a pair of show quality black silkies? The lady wants $50 for them. Is that too steep or about right?

I've paid more than that for a show quality pair so I would say its about right :). Are you sure they are show quality though? Have you seen pictures? I've had people tell me their birds were show quality and it turned out they were actually pet quality.

x2 many people will charge $20 or more per chick. So I would say if they are indeed SQ, that is a great price.

So my Nugget has been making weird noises. He/she purs or makes this calling out noise. It doesn't sound like a crow. It's like an alarm or something. LOL I took this picture of Nugget and right after Nugget started with the pur noise. Has anyone else experienced that? Does it mean anything? lol

yes my silkie roo does this sort of 'scream/screech/calling out' noise if he sees something 'unusual' and thinks he has to alert everyone....also my silkies and chickens will make a 'growl' noise if they see a hawk or something 'dangerous'....so my guess is that you have a little beautiful boy on your hands....
