I noticed that your white has a really 'poofy' poof. Could that at all be an early indication of sex in Silkies? I have noticed that some are more 'poofy' throughout all the pics I have looked at.

Hahaha!! Who are you kidding?? You KNOW you'll have a Silkie flock by the end of the year! That was my initial quest too, I just wanted a broody. Now, 20 birds later and counting...

Can LF and silkies be kept together or will I need a separate run and coop for the little guys?

can someone give me a quick list of what colors create what colors i bought 25 and have to figure out which colors to keep there are buff white 1 black 1 blue and 3 splash

I have heard yes, it's fine, once they are integrated, but I'm interested in actual btdt, because at this point, all of my babies are planned to be going in with the big girls. Mine are perching now, so I'm hoping once we get the lower perch in there, they will use that at night, because it would be better than puppy piling on the floor and potentially getting pooped on...........

Blue, black and splash can be kept together. Buff is separate and white is separate.


The way the Blue gene works in a breeding can be broken down as follows:
1) Blue x Blue: This will produce 25% black, 50% blue, 25% splash.
2) Black x Blue: Produces 50% black and 50% blue.
3) Black x Splash: You'll get 100% blue.
4) Blue x Splash: Produces 50% blue and 50% splash.
5) Splash x Splash: This will give you 100% Splash.
