Silkie thread!

They definitely look like partridgey birds...Splash partridge maybe? I've heard and seen partridge come out of BBS pens, so the white "sport" could have been hiding the partridge.

I really like #1 - I have been looking really hard for a similarly colored girl. I take it since their your daughters none are for sale - LOL (I can dream) I have a "Splash Partridge" boy who is gorgeous.

You guessed it...she's my daughter's favorite.
Do you have a pic of your partridge boy? I would love to see him!

Ok, I need some help. I am starting a flock of silkies, I am really wanting to focus on BBS. I have 1 Splash, 2 Black, 1 Possible Blue, 1 Mystery Color and a few other random colors. I know if I want to focus on BBS I should just stick with those colors but at the same time the other colors are soooo pretty too. But I need a little help figuring out what some of my colors are. Also they are not for show, but maybe one day it would be fun to do. Thanks for any help!

Splash (hoping that it is a girl

Mystery Color (thought it was a splash as a chick but has orangy color to it, really love its color though)

Black (my only nonbearded)

My other Black (bearded)

Blue? Very light color, but has awesome feathered feet!

The next two look very similar, they hatched with the Blue? one, thought they were partridge but feathering in funny. They both are vaulted, but they have very dark green skin? Should I just not bother with them?

And lastly I have one Grey? Has the best foot feathering of them all, even the little toes have feathering!

i have a question.......i candled my silkie eggs today and they are on day 6 and it looks like the egg is already filled up! is this normal? i have heard that silkies develop way faster than other bantams and didnt know if this was true and advice would be aprricated

What is 'vaulted' skull?
I took this excerpt from this link: http://www.hattricksilkies.net/articles_vaulted_skull.html
A vaulted skull is a hole in the top portion of the skull. It has been said this genetic trait was introduced into silkies via crosses to Polish. The Polish were bred into Silkies to improve crest size.
It sounds reasonable to me.

So, what happens with this 'hole in the head'?
Well, since there is an opening, it allows a portion of the brain to protrude through the opening. It's not as freaky as it sounds as it's covered with skin and feathers.

My chick has a tall "bump" on the top of its head. It just sticks straight up-- it does not have a flat head/skull. That one picture I took of it when it was still partially wet-- you could see the black skin of the bump pretty good on the chick. Now that the chick is fluffed and dried-- you can't really see that it has a vaulted skull-- other than it has a big "crest" there now. It does look like my Polish chicks when they are hatched.
