ok, I must have a splash...
How do these birds see? lol...their eyes are covered with fluff when they get older! I keep pushing the fluff away from her eyes right now..I don't think that is going to work much longer!
The babies start shaking their heads if they get annoyed be the fluff. When that starts I bring out the blunt scissors and trim the cheek feathers. If you are planning to show them you can use things like unflavored gelatin and hair gel to "glue" them down and wash it out before the show.

Thanks y'all for the birthday wishes! The silkie chicks has certainly made this an extra special birthday for me!

I didn't even plan to have some hatch on my birthday, but that's super neat!

I just realized that you were asking if this chick was splash. It looks like there is a gray cast to it's new wing feathers so likely it is but if you had a possibility of white, it could also be white. In that case the wing feathers would be white.

Here are my two older buff girls. They are not going to be in our breeding program but instead were purchased as pets for my little boy (age 5). He adores them.

Here is Buffy (yep, he named them...) She is a year old and is very dark, almost reddish in person.

And here is Tweety. She is 3 months old

Buffs aren't really my thing, but they make him happy. And they are very sweet.

If your son decides he doesn't want them anymore, you can send them my way! Too cute!!

Shouldn't they have feathers on their feet to be silkies?? Do silkies come barefooted too?

The woman I got them had two pair of white silkies and the hens did not have feathers on their feet, I was kind of disappointed to see that. I think these guys are going to be barefooted as well. :-( I'd really like to get my hands on a really nice silkie chick, or maybe I'll buy an older nicer one if I go to any of the upcoming shows in NY.
