Silkie thread!

Awww Thanks! He kinda reminds of a sad puppy with big innocent eyes. LOL
Yes! Cute little thing.

Food grade diatomaceous earth is a fine powder that is sprinkled on bedding, dust baths and food for parasite control.
Somewhere I read that it's used for flea control, human health benefits, organic pest control, kill bed bugs, pet food health supplement, cat litter odor control & whiter teeth. Quite a combination.
Is DE a good thing to have for Silkies that do very little to none free ranging?

I was just on the phone telling my husband I discovered something new about one of my chicks and he says, "Wait while I wrap my head in tape so it won't explode!"

I have GOT to get a bator!! I won 6 paint eggs the other day, and sweet woman is holding them for me until I get my act together....

What kind do you have and do you like it?
I have a Brinsea Octagon Eco 20. It's a good machine IF you have a good thermometer to check your temperature with.

(I kept adjusting it wrong because I didn't know my therm was 3 degrees OFF!!)

I have two. A hovabator with fan and an elaborate homemade one that my DH blessed me with. They both work great. They crittical thing is to make sure your thermometer and hygrometer are accurate and it can be extremely frustrating until you get that worked out. Just because a thermometer comes with your bator or from a poutry supply does not in anyway mean it is accurate.
AMEN!!!!!!!! YES!! I have one of the most idiot proof incubators there is on the market. Seriously, I did my homework for months before I bought my Brinsea! Everyone said an idiot (me) could run it! So I bought it, and the thing never developed any eggs in 4 months!!! 4 stinkin' months!! Then someone on here asks me 'are you sure your thermometer is correct'? Why wouldn't it be, right??? WRONG!!! I bought 3 more therms-- and found out I was cooking all my poor eggs. Sigh. So yeah, it is critical to have a working and accurate thermometer! And don't trust the one it comes with. Because even the most idiot proof incubator won't work if you have it set 3 degrees higher than it should be.

Anyway, that is all in the past now, and I'm happily developing little eggs as I type.

hehe!!!

What color would this little chick be? He/she is from last year's hatch. I never could figure out what color turned out in the end. I'm guessing it's my grey pullet?

Hhmmm.... someone wouldn't be a Trekkie, would they???? hehe!! I LOVE Star Trek!! I religiously watched all of them-- the Next Generation being some of the best episodes. I have a silkie chick named Spock. I kind of have a thing for scifi and super heros, too. I named my favorite silkies Zorro, Yoda, and Zelda.
