Silkie thread!

My silkie hen, Friend, was attacked by a dog yesterday. She died in the middle of the night. She was a splash silkie. Going to miss her - she was sweet and docile little girl.
So very sorry!

I'd say its a cockerel but I don't think its a silkie mix at all. Perhaps a Sultan mix? They also have 5 toes and crests. Those pink legs and toes, along with the pink skin at the head don't look like they have any silkie influence at all.....
Doesn't look like it has a whole lot of sultan to me.......... the foot feathering isn't quite right; sultans shouldn't have that kind of a comb (mine don't, and I am 99% certain at least one of them is a boy) and then I don't see any vulture hocks. Here's what mine looked like at 2 weeks:

That being said, if he's mixed, it's hard to say what the outcome will be, because you never (or at least I don't, lol) know what's going to show and what's not. Mine have the really crookedy beak, too. Fwiw. Mystery chicks can be fun, or they can be aggravating, for sure!

I only have 4 shorwgirl eggs left for lock down..will know by Fri..if I get any. I want showgirls..I want partridge..I want, I want!!

I love sand!!!! In my case it's free as I have a dry riverbed on my property but it's wonder for silkies. They are always clean. Never any mud or smell and I feel like it keeps them disease free and external parasite free. I mix in DE in there bedding and dusting holes.

Wow that sounds great. Currently I'm using wood chips but we did just have some mite problems (thankfully all cleared up now).

I think it would be rather expense for me to buy though.
