Her eye is a little stretched open, but she'll have it out in a little while. You get the idea.

I tried the elastic with Elliot. He was having none of it.

(He wasn't even off my lap before he had the thing off!)

I'm thinking I may be able to get him used to the gel eventually. I can see why the gelatin works. It wouldn't have the perfume that this dang gel has. Elliot DOES seem to be getting used to the idea of seeing. ..... the girls are in trouble now. Apparently, he's a frustrated boy ....

I've had her for a few months, and she is just getting used to it.
Sometimes it will be there for a few days. She is just so amazed what there is to see.
And then, she rips it out.

I got my pink X-pen off of ebay at a discount! I think I paid $26.00 for it, including the shipping?? Then I lined it with some plastic 1/2 x 1/2 inch netting on the inside so the chicks can't get through and so big ones can't stick their heads in and peck a little one. The plastic netting I got at Wal-Mart, for like $3.00/50 ft roll? If I could change one thing here, and will with the next X-pen I buy, it will be taller. This one is only 24" high, and the Silkies can jump when they want to!! A 48" pen is too heavy for me to lug in and out any more, so 36" tall should do the trick well.

I'm hatching right now, and so far have 2 Blacks?, 1 Blue, 1 what looks to be a White (still wet), and a pip in one of my White Showgirl eggs!!!!

Must chime in - I wouldn't trade my boy for any hen. He's the sweetest thing I've ever seen. He is actually
affectionate, and just talks and talks to me. Loves cuddling and follows me around like a puppy. I really need
to get some pictures/video of him.
My Roo's are actually really nice I can pick all of them up and pet them some even enjoy sitting on my lap I have one that follows me around the yard talking to me. I have 8 Silkie Roos and am sure there will be some in the 10 chicks I am raising now. I have several living together with Hens and some living without hens. Just keep handling him/her to keep it friendly. I was leary of having Roosters based on past experience but have been pleasantly surprised.

Lovely!! LOVE that buff pile!
I am new to the board and I have a new-found Silkie addiction. Love seeing all of the lovely Silkies and reading the stories of them. I currently have 7 Silkies and am planning on getting some eggs to hatch out. My whole family loves them even my husband who likes chickens but has never been particularly interested in them.
here are a few of my new friends. I love many of the colors but only have Buff, Blue and Partridge right now....
