You can get sevin as a liquid to spray on surfaces; either using a pressurized sprayer or in one of the spray bottles that you use with a garden hose. DON'T use the liquid on your birds: WAY too strong. Here is what I do for mites... I use that sevin dust... I clean the coop of everything, THROW the sevin in by the cup full, put on a respirator mask, take my leaf blower and blow it in the coop real well. THERE IS NOT A CRACK OR CREVICE THOSE SUCKERS CAN HIDE IN!
I'm betting she catches up soon!! I think my Splash are fine.I was hoping Sonoran would post the SOP on this because I'm kicking myself for not putting it in my notes. I don't have the book but she quoted it something like this, that a splash was a pale blue background with splashes of dark blue. Some of us were discussing how we liked the really white background with dark blue spots and she posted that. Hope she or someone will post it again and this time I will copy it!!
Beautiful chicks!! The darker one in the first photo looks light blue to me. If so, it will become obvious soon. I love the light blues!I'm betting she catches up soon!! I think my Splash are fine.![]()
I did get a picture of a couple of my splash from my 6 week olds and another couple from my 4 week olds.. They all pretty much look like this, so I didn't see any point in posting a ton of pictures! LOL
6 week old Splash group-- this shows a great example of a darker blue base and a lighter in my Splash. (darker on left and lighter on Right) BELOW:

4 week old Splash-- these guys are all pretty much the same color, I couldn't really find one that was darker/lighter. Then when I put these two back in-- I saw a chick in the back that obviously looks lighter than these two. Go figure.

BTW-- look at the beaks on these two-- the one on the left is very obviously hooked downward like an eagle-- and the other one on the right is a straighter beak.![]()
WAAAAHAAAAHAAAA! The front chick looks like my splash did... AND I was pretty certain it was a pullet, and since One of the offspring from Roger was a solid black... I was going to breed for blues...
Yeah, I'm wondering if she may turn out blue, too. I figure a few more weeks... I'll know! That one didn't hatch out in the typical blue color for me-- looked like a Splash hatch. I'll post a pic of my Blues. They are really cool looking right now.Beautiful chicks!! The darker one in the first photo looks light blue to me. If so, it will become obvious soon. I love the light blues!
So sorry about your babies.WAAAAHAAAAHAAAA! The front chick looks like my splash did... AND I was pretty certain it was a pullet, and since One of the offspring from Roger was a solid black... I was going to breed for blues...
Very well could be, but I do have an adult Splash that is this base color under her spots. So no telling right now until it gets a bit older.Yes, I would consider the darker one in the first pic a Blue too.![]()
I am so sorry :-(I have horrible news. A coon got in my silkie coop last night. I lost all of my silkies except my roo roger... the one that got scalped by a hawk a month or so ago, and 3 wyandotte chicks that Leila was fostering. It managed to get in by going in between the dog run and the coop, pulling the fencing off on that side of the coop tractor. I put that side against the dog run cuz I knew it was a weak side until I could buy the last of my trim wood to sandwiche the last section of fencing. I am so mad at myself. I just ran out of money and still needed about $30 in wood, and was getting that on tuesday when I get paid again. I can see on the fencing where it tried to get in at other places as couldn't, so I know I did a good job there, but I thought that putting the tractor up against the dog run on its weak spot wouldnt give room for anything to get through.
Lesson learned. I am so mad I am in tears.
