What would it be called - I do know it's not a showable colour. Still.. Very cute :p and some more of the 6 week olds (messy hair because of watermellon, rain and humidity)

I helped this one hatch after it was 3 days late. Shrink wrapped, and weak. She/he is thriving and beautiful!

Ok, time to trim my Silkies eyes. I am really nervous about doing this. Everyone says use the blunt kind of scissors..but aren't they dull? I guess I am thinking of the young kids kind they use in school. I'm thinking, two people to hold her down. Poor thing, I throw out treats, she just stands there and stares at the ground to wait for one to fall in front of her. I separated the feathers yesterday, and yes, they need to be trimmed! Any other suggestions besides the type of scissors?

Just trim around her heard.

I don't trim after I really screwed up my bantam Buff Laced polish's hairdo. Never again lol

Hi all, I am new to silkies and would like to know if anyone could tell me what color(s) I have here. Hatched on 3/23. I am thinking partridge for one but I am really not sure. Thank you

Don't trim the crest!! If you look closely, that isn't what is interfering with her vision. Trim the beard or muff under her eyes, that is the part that will need the trimming. The blunt ended scissors are the kind that the medical field uses-- they can safely be dug under bandages without having sharp edges that will poke or cut. Just trim the muff a bit under the eyes and see how she does. That's all we ever do.

I'm sure the anwserr is here some place but at what age do silkie roosters start to crow? I have one that is 14 weeks and he is a he but nothing yet. He like to make soft little sounds, which are so cute, but no crowing yet. And I have to say that my kids feel in love with this one. We just happened to find it at TSC in a bin of bantams. We now have 14 more, 6 of those are going to be sold. My 15 year old really wants to show them but not really sure about what it take for that. And I'm not sure any of ours are good enough. Plenty cute though! Also can I breed the batch I have to each other or should I get some eggs from a different person and breed them?

Thanks! And all these silkies are cute!!
One of mine started at 4 months of age .

...and I have 2 that let out the most pathetic sounding crows EVER at 2 months! I even videotaped it on my phone 'cuz it made me laugh so much. They would stand really tall and REALLY work up that crow - it seemed so uncomfortable for them that I'm not sure why they are so excited about doing it!

I love giving mine watermelon too but every time I do it brings swarms of ants YIKES not good for the chickens . I really love the new paint colors that are being developed now. I hope to have a nice trio of some one day. Cute birds you have . I have some partridges too of different shades and love watchimg them change from chickmunk chicks to adults.
