Silkie thread!

they could have been cooked in the heat. Those will look unfertile. But give them a chance. I can usually see veins by Day 5, but you really have to know what you are looking for and have a high powered light. You should be able to see something by Day 10.

Very cute!! This one above looks like it might be starting to develop a cross beak. Just keep an eye on him. Even if he does develop a cross beak or a twist, he will be just fine!! They need the feed bowl to always be full, but they get along great. Looks like you are going to really be enjoying some fluff soon when they get older! I like the adult birds better than the chicks. They really mellow out and start looking really cute.

I have kept it in the back of my mind that this tiny one could develop other problems, sort of from being the runt. As far as food, they always have their feeder full plus I give them treats all day long. They all love seeing me coming. Corn, watermelon, bread, pasta, dried mealy worms etc. I made them scrambled eggs everyday for the first week.

They are gorgeous, Racuda!

But, I have to say, I am jealous of all the "green" in the background. Here in California, we rarely get any rain between June-July-August or September! I have to supplement with lettuce, cabbage and frozen veggies because the yard is pretty much dirt. Anyway, your silkies are lovely in their lush environment.
I took some pics today of some of the adults. It was hard to get some of them not panting.

This one is three years old and I hatched her from one of Bobbi Porto's eggs

The buff is one year old and was hatched from one of Sundown Silkie's eggs.

Thanks!

As far as being jealous, don't be. The green comes with 110% humidity!

Yes, they are from Cackle. Good info about the vaulted skulls and crests.
I just took a couple pictures of our babies.

They are only 5 1/2 weeks old and still alittle awkward looking.

And they have gotten baths acouple times already.

Look at that dirty face below! That's our tiny one. Had curled feet when it got here, but I fixed it and it is doing great.
Just can't stay clean, lol.
My first silkies were also hatchery. I loved them and they got me started wanting to breed more. :)

Okay, I said I'd post a picture of a couple of my chicks... I'm not sure I have the best pictures and I'll have to get a couple more. One is very obvious. The splash chick is right about 3 months. The comb path is getting wider than the line of the beak-- I'm not sure if it's very clear on this picture, but I can see it. Also, there is quite a bit of a bump starting to grow there. At this point, it seems to me (and my birds) this is a lot of growth for a chick so young. I'm guessing this is a little boy.

(BELOW:) This one is going to be much harder to tell. This is the same age of chick as the one above. This one has a flat comb right now, and is looking like a girl comb wise. This one could really go either way, because I have some that really look like girls and this one isn't fitting into that "look". So could be a slow maturing boy. Honestly, at this point, it's waaaaay too early to be guessing! But I do enjoy taking pictures of them so I can go back and study them later and say yeah-- I was right it was a boy, or vice versa. These guys are into the awkward stage- where they look more like punk rockers than having the nicely rounded crests they will get later. But it goes fast-- these birds are developing nice round crests right about 4 months of age and start filling in from there. (I should qualify MY birds do... depending on what lines you are working with, will determine how fast they mature)

Great info and pictures! Thanks.

I can see what you mean on the first one and a little less on the second. Would you mind looking at a pix of two or three of mine? I'll try to post them tomorrow.
One I am sure is a girl, one I'm sure is a boy, and one I am totally unsure about!

Thanks again!
