Silkie thread!

I have three Blue Silkies that are 5 months old. One is definitely a boy, has a developing comb, and red in the wattles. One has a tiny tiny bit of red in the wattles (praying for a early developing girl

). The other is definitely a girl, stance, attitude, crest.. all point to girl. At what age are they developed enough to get a good grading from you guys? I know it varies but can anyone give me an estimate? I'd like to show one of them next year but I want yall's opinions on who is good, who's better, and who's best. Here's some pics from today:

Heres my boy: Little Boy Blue

This is my girl: Puffinstuff
I couldn't get a pic of the third

Heres my Parti boy, now 9 months old (ish).Any thoughts or criticisms? I know one pic is not enough to judge him but just for fun, what do you think of him? I think his back is a bit long but I am a newbie so I could be wrong... Hes not a breeder, he is the head of my mixed hen pen (Buff, Partridge, and Im getting a Paint here soon)

Heres my Buff. She was exchanged for my Duccle roo. I have looked her over and she has no smut (any darkness in the pics is from her dustbathing)
You can barely tell from this pic but way back in the back, my hen has started making a nest. Heres hoping she goes broody and will hatch out some babies for me:)

Your partridge boy looks pretty nice overall from that picture. I wouldn't say his back is too long, most partridge tend to be very upright, unlike the more developed and worked on colors that the males have been turned very feminine (I.E. short, round and basketballish)
He looks longer in the pic cause his necks extended, but overall from what I can see he looks pretty decent, would like to see by 9 months a more defined puffed out chest though, thats about the only fault I can see right off about him.
I just picked up another young partridge cockerel today. :)

My girl, a bantams Cochin was sitting on 2 silkie eggs... Both pipped, zipped, and one is out and fluffed, the other was halfway and died... I finished peeling the shell, and the little guy seemed well formed. He was even half fluffed from mom sitting on him... He was a grey and rust color. The one that lives, he is a rich black, with a bit of a white spot on its chest. How sad though... What causes a chick to get so far out of its shell and die?

We just lost the first of our chickens to old age - a fat hatchery bantam cochin of about 6 years. She never seemed very healthy compared to the others so I was not suprised when she was first to go. I was wondering how old your oldest silkie is, those of you who have had them a while? I just started with silkies and am just wondering about their lifespans.

I need your opinion on the sex of these two. I've thought they were girls and I want to sell them this weekend. What do you think? The white one has a little pink in the comb but that has always been there. I never see them them stand upright like the roosters and one squatted when I put my hand on it's back.

Your boy is pretty and I love his coloring! His feet look a little shy of feathering, or are they just wet? I love the pale buffs but the desired coloring is a richer, darker gold. Unfortunately, the darker the gold the more risk of what is called "smut" (blue or black feathers). With buffs it's always a balancing act.

The top one looks girly to me. I could go either way on the other. :)
