Silkie thread!

Thanks for our help. I just looked closer at the black one and noticed it has the smallest amount of yellow at the base of the neck. Could a pullet have that or is it strictly a roo trait. I can't tell if it has some streamers starting or just more poof coming in. Thanks to T-Mobile wireless I have the worst connection, so I couldn't get online again until now.

No, the spot would not indicate sex. :)

Someone, please tell me you have seen pullet silkie chicks do the chest bump challenge before! I went out to watch them this morning and witnessed the Challange. I already have two roo babies from the three LF chicks, so two roo babies from the Silkies would just be depressing.

Yes, girls do it too, but not so much after 8 - 9 weeks.

Yesterday was very bittersweet for me... I had to thin my flock down to only whites... I was able to keep my blue hen, Ms. Rumpy, a black hen named Psyco and my first gen SG hen Louise. I also went to an auction yesterday. There was one lot that no one bid on! The lowest anyone can bid per bird is 50 cents... I raised my hand and bought the pair of week old silkie chicks that were inside.

Have I told you all about my how wonderful my rumpied silkie hen, Ms. Rumpy is? Well, about a week ago I took her from her ducklings, they were starting to pluck her alive, and put her back in with my other silkies. Out of curiosity yesterday, I put the two unwanted chicks in with Ms. Rumpy. I rubbed them under her wing first so they would smell like her and she would think they were hers... and....

*drum roll please!*

Rumpy took the babies! I went out to grab a few photos for you guys this morning and got attacked by an angry mother hen! And I was happy to get attacked!

Now the auction said they were white, but I think they are a creame or splash... their feathers have an orangish sheen to them I'm not sure my cam could pick up on and one has a small black spot near it's wing.

In the box on the way home, I added the napkins so they were a little cleaner for the 45 minute ride home.

Ms. Rumpy guarding her brood. I love this special looking bird!

Great story!! Can't see the chicks very well, but white chicks are usually yellowish when hatched.

Streamers come off the back and wouldn't show in this photo. I don't see any. Thanks, but my parti is a girl. :D
Lol, I thought the longer feathers that protrude out of the crest were streamers my mistake, I guess I was unclear when I asked the question a while back and for some reason I thought you said your parti was a roo anyways she is way too good looking to be a hen!!!

Just got a rooster home with few young hens was told they weren't ready to bread but saw him mate a hen. Does this mean he is ready to fertilize eggs? And does it mean my hen is ready to lay?

Hi guys in the Wilsonville Canby area,

I am driving to Eugene area to get a roo I am taking from a very sweet lady who has had to cull a bunch of roo's. She kept out 12 gorgeous birds, a couple of whites, paint, splashes. I would like to help her by taking what I can she was reffered to me by Suzierd and I don't mind going all that way to save her beautiful birds, they are 4 months old. She is a very reputable breeder and person and like I said has lovely birds. I would be willing to pick up birds for others but they will have to picked up at my house in the Canby area. I am not asking for gas or any fees whatsoever, I just hate to see her put down these birds. I would be happy to send pictures to anyone who is interested. I am picking up a gorgeous buff roo to mate to the absolutely gorgeous hens I got from Kelar/Catdance if anyone will be looking for any beautiful buffs. Please contact me and can get any information also from Suzierd.

Thanks Guys!!!!!

My Roo started dominating my girls the same week one of my girls started laying... don't know if it helps but if they're going through the motions I'm sure fertilization is in the works!!!

I am going to say that you have a couple of little paints there...they look like they have some spots and if they have an orange ting to them then yes...they will hopefully look like mine...the are both from paint breeding pens...not a lot of spots like my other paints but they do have them... am excited for you...I bet they are!
