Silkie thread!

its not that u shouldn't its just causeing my white silkies to get yellow in them

I hear the feathers also get sunburned if they are kept outside which will also cause the yellowing. My splash has a little bit I have been trying to grow out.

The two that you've marked as nothing there, I'd agree. I'd pull them and dispose of them. The one marked partridge is also questionable, but I'd leave it in as long as it doesn't doesn't smell or start to weep. It may just be the photo doesn't show the developing chick very well. Good luck. Deb
I agree exactly with Deb. Those air cells look really big for day 14 :/ To clarify: The first Partridge and the Blue look normal for air cells, but the rest look like mine when they are ready to hatch (except the obvious non-developers).

Here is one of my silkie eggs at just about the same time.

majority of feeds is 50% + corn. use a blend. Zack your going to have a hard time finding some things we have here, some brands are local, some are regional, and aren't even available to others here in the US and even some big brands here may not be found up your way in Canada hun.

look around and see if you can find a higher soy based feed. your going to have to research for your area to see about it, you may have to travel to get it, and just stock up. if its right expensive just mix it with a regular corn based layer feed - to thin out the corn. also adding a non-corn scratch grains (soy, oats, wheat, millet, BOSS, etc will help give them extra proteins, etc while thinning out the corn) also keep whites out of the sun, and keep their bedding clean, also sand dish for dust bathing instead of them bathing in the shavings. this will all help to keep a white from appearing dingy.

my showstock is in a indoor coop so no sun ive been resarching feeds and what other people feed even mix feeds and the mix feeds even start with a feed bag from the feed store and they just buy extras to add it is looking like i will have to mix my own feed and i have found some good links to help me do soo i am going to a poultry show this weekend and going to ask around

They are going to need a little time outside for the vitamin D... just 15 minutes is good for their bones.
they do get sunlight from the windows in the pen but i wouldnt think it would be enough to go yellow also know lots of other people who have there show stock inside. but when i have the money i plan on making shaded runs so the can go outside but this year could only afford the 20 foot coop i built

Mine go outside (unrestricted) and eat corn and don't yellow. Is it less likely to happen if they are younger? What does it look like on them if they do start to colour from the sun and corn? I only have one white girl - and she is really just a pet. I just haven't seen personally what you are describing :)

u most likely wont see it in the pullets my girls are fine its all my white based cockerels that have the yellow problem. to tell u the truth even in my pet coop were i have white silkies free range all day and eat lots of corn the hens havent changed colours ethier but the boys do. dont knoe why been told could be sun, corn, marigold even could be genetic

also i didnt notice they were going yellow untill older i wonder if it could just be like a leakage in the boys i have no clue what it could be but i may be droping my whites do to this problem

I have 2 white roos, a full silkie and a SG, they free range every day eat a 50/50 mix of flock raiser and scratch grains, the only yellowing I see is on my full silkie, and it's only on his head, feet and tail. When I bathe him it comes out. I think its just from the way he eats and how he is kept. He is the low man on the totem pole so I don't think that helps much either.
