Silkie thread!

Other than ASBCs website, where can I find a list of breeders in my state? I am looking for good quality, not super expensive eggs to hatch. I will eventually try getting eggs from Catdance or Bobbi Porto but for now I am not confident in my incubator (or my operation of said incubator) enough to get $50+ eggs from across the country...
Rookie ~ I just hatched some Catdance eggs. I received 10 eggs for $35 with shipping. I felt that was a reasonable price to pay for eggs with a good reputation. She will ship any amount but...the shipping costs are still the same as she has to pack the same for 1 egg as she does for 12.

The funniest thing this morning...my white silkie roo has been practicing his crow. He's about 2 months old. He's actually been mimicking my Australorp roo, Bruce, that is about 3 months old now and has been crowing like crazy. When Bruce would crow, the silkie would think that it was his turn to respond. So, he would get in his crowing stance and stretch his neck and let out a croak. Then he would clear his throat, shake his head (almost as if to say, "hold on, let me try that again") and croak again. All the others just stare at him. Bruce is very tolerant of him.

beautiful!! Can't wait for my silkies to grow up and be beautiful. Right now mine are still babies except for one which is a bit older (2 months) but at the awkward stage. Looking like a bad hair day.
You know I am just as bad...I have to stop wishing my chicks to grow up fast and just enjoy their little selfs but...it's hard

I can not, keep up with everyone here...all I can say is, I have just gone through some pages with some beautiful birds! They are all just gorgeous!
I will share a pic. of my young pullet..Cotton..bet ya cant' guess what color she is. Still has some growing to do, but I think she is a pretty girl
And, a picture of..drum roll please....an egg, from my Blue Splash. I knew she was getting close, she has started squatting. Such a sweet girl. And, I found it right where I figured I would find it..on the ground, outside the coop, and NOT in a nest box. Little stink. Going to make changes for the Silkies, different pen, hoping they will like the area of boxes better. We will see I guess.

Not a bad sized egg for a pullet..I know it can go either way with the first eggs, I am
hoping it will get a little bigger anyway. I compared it to my NH's egg she laid for me
today.

The NH has been laying for a couple of months now. I love the color of the Silkies egg.
A nice dark cream color.

Here's my white girl with the real original name..Cotton. :))
So exciting when they lay their first egg...and I think Cotton is a beauty. She should give you some awesome babies one day.

I understand. I am just nervous about jinxing myself by getting really nice, special eggs for my first bator hatch. 3ChickensinNC is local and going to send me some eggs when his girls get back to laying. I think local eggs will give me a slightly better chance to hatch, since it will be my first real hatch.

So glad you found someone close by. Is he close enough to pick them up? I was given my first silkies at a few days old for free. I know I took a chance having those eggs shipped from WA to GA but I am very happy with the success rate. Now I'm praying they all live and nothing bad happens to any of them. I know I'm asking a lot, lol. Can't wait to here about your eggs later on.

It is a several hour drive to where he lives so I doubt I can pick them up but the shipping will (hopefully) be lessened by the fact that they wont have to travel very far.
